Re: MUCINEX question
i did mucinex last month and i got my bfp! i started taking it a few days before O'ing. just make sure you take no more than 200mg (or mcg's i dont remember which one but no more than 200) per dose. and you MUST make sure the ONLY active ingredient is guanefesin. other active ingredients are actually harmful to sperm.

Re: MUCINEX question
I found this:
Guaifenesin or guaiphenesin is an expectorant drug usually taken orally to assist the expectoration ("bringing up") of phlegm from the airways in acute respiratory tract infections. It is sold as pills or syrups under several brand names such as Mucinex, and Robitussin.
In order to get pregnant you need fertile cervical fluid/mucus. The cervical mucus consistency varies through a woman's cycle. The consistency of your cervical mucus changes during the cycle due to hormonal fluctuations. You are considered most fertile when the mucus becomes clear, slippery, and stretchy. Many women compare mucus at this stage to raw egg whites. The amount of this thin mucus will steadily increase until you experience your 'mucus peak'. This is the last day of this phase where the chance of conception is high. It is closely tied to ovulation. During this phase, the sperm's survival rate is higher. It can survive in cervical mucus for up to 72 hours, a significantly longer time than during the rest of the cycle.
Cervical mucus is described as "hostile" when it is too thick to allow sperm to penetrate the cervix, thereby preventing conception. Women who are taking Clomid to induce ovulation frequently experience hostile mucus.
A way to help the hostile cervical mucus problem is to take guaifenesin. Guaifenesin is the active ingredient in Robitussin, and Mucinex - over the counter medicine in the US. Robitussin is a syrup and Mucinex are pills.
If you take Robitussin: You will want to find a cough syrup with has the ONLY active ingredient as guaifenesin. Any other ingredients can limit the effect you are looking for. Recommended dosage is two teaspoons (200 mg) taken orally three times per day. If mucus still appears thick, you can take as the maximum dosage as listed on the label of the cough medicine. Water intake should be increased to encourage cervical mucus production and a full glass should take with each dose of guaifenesin. Most doctors suggest taking Robitussin five days before and including the day of ovulation for a total of 6 days during your cycle. This helps provide the optimal environment to help the sperm survive and get to where they need to go. If you take Clomid, waiting until the day after the last Clomid pill is taken before starting Robitussin is suggested.
If you take Mucinex: Until recently, Guaifenesin in pill format, had usually required a doctor's prescription but you can now buy Mucinex over the counter. Take 200mg of Mucinex with a full glass of water, three times per day. If cervical mucus does not become thinner, increase dosage to maximum allowed on the label. Take during the 5 days before ovulation, and the day of ovulation. There is no advantage in taking guaifenesin during the rest of your cycle, because the quality of your cervical mucus is only important at the time of intercourse. In fact, your cervical mucus is supposed to be thick and sticky during the rest of your cycle (when you're not ovulating), as a defense against any organisms that may find their way into the vagina. Check with your doctor before using.

I think usually if it's regular mucinex or Robitussin it's just Guafenisin as the only ingredient but if there is a letter after it like D or DM then there are other ingredients

Thanks!

On Mucinex with the DM, you will know it is the DM because it has it huge on the front of the bottle.

I bought the ones that are 1200 mg and the only active ingredient is guanefesin. They are also time release. I wonder if I should still take it every other day or something? Or maybe see if I can return them for a different mg. Help!!!!!

That is actually the one thing I am going to do differently this month! I also bought the 1200mg Mucinex, its extended release. I am planning on starting on what I think is 5 days prior to ovulation and one day past ovulation. We will see how it works!

Re: MUCINEX question
I ovulated last Friday (CD13), and I started taking Mucinex on Sunday (CD8) up until the following Sunday (CD 15) when I took my last OPK test (just for safe measures) and did not get a smiley.

Sorry my post was a little confusing. I took Mucinex for a week to cover my ground (from Sunday to Sunday) I got my smiley on Thursday, so I did not test again Friday or Saturday (but we BD) I just re-tested for peace of mind on Sunday just to see if I got a smiley, but I did not (this was my first month using the OPK so I was curious.)

Re: MUCINEX question
A friend just conceived using Mucinex and told me about it. I bought it immediately! I read here that you should only take max 200 mg per dose. My box reads 600 mg. Should I take it or try to get something different?
