Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

Here are my answers...

1. How long is your DC sleeping at night? Does he/she have a "bedtime" and if so, what is it? Where is he/she sleeping?

-- Loey is waking up every 3 hours during the night - sometimes every 2 hours. He doesn't have a bedtime, he pretty much just goes to sleep when I go to sleep. He slept on me the last two nights because he was just so fussy... but usually he starts in the bassinet and then after the first middle of the night feeding, he sleeps in the snuggle nest in our bed.

2. Are you bottle or breast feeding and how oftem does DC eat?

-- I'm breast feeding almost exclusively. Occasionally he will get a bottle of formula (like if we are out shopping or somewhere not convenient for BFing) but that is only like 1 bottle a few times/week. He eats every 2.5-3 hours.

3. How often does DC nap and how long? Where does he/she nap?

-- He naps in the bassinet or if we're out, he naps in the infant carrier. He naps anywhere from 1-2 hours usually.

4. How do you "play" with your DC? And how long do you play with him/her?

--Loey HATES the bouncy seat and swing! I put him on the gym mat thingie on his back and for tummy time... I read to him, I sing to him, I have him face me while I watch TV and I talk about the shows to him (hahah he loves Days of our Lives!)... but I feel like we don't really "play"

5. Do you have a "schedule" or is your day pretty much based on DCs routine? What does a typical day look like for you?

--We kind of have a 3-hour cycle schedule. A typical day lately might look like this:

7-745am - first feeding, burp, change diaper
745-830/9 - playtime
830/9 - 10 - naptime
10-1045am - second feeding, burp, change
1045-1130/12 - playtime
1130/12 - 1 - naptime
1-145 - third feeding, burp, change
145-230/3 - playtime
230/3 - 4 - naptime
4-445 - fourth feeding, burp, change
445-530/6 - playtime
530/6 - 7 naptime
7-745 pm - fifth feeding, burp, change
745-830/9 - playtime and maybe bath
830/9 - naptime
10-1045 - sixth feeding, burp change and back to bed
1 am - seventh feeding, burp, change and back to bed
4 am - eighth feeding, burp, change, back to bed

if we go out during the day, it's usually around 1130 during his naptime and we'll feed him while he's out - but he usually wont' have a good awake time if we are out

6. When are you going back to work?

Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

1. How long is your DC sleeping at night? Does he/she have a "bedtime" and if so, what is it? Where is he/she sleeping?

I feed him about 9pm, swaddle him and put him down in his bassinet..for the most part he will fall asleep after being rocked for a bit then wake up every 3hrs to eat and falls back to sleep again after being rocked for awhile again...though some nights aren't as good and he won't want to fall back asleep

2. Are you bottle or breast feeding and how oftem does DC eat?

Bottle feeding and he eats every 3 hrs somewhere between 3 1/2 ounces and 4 1/2 ounces

3. How often does DC nap and how long? Where does he/she nap?

He naps either on me, on his boppy newborn lounger, or his swing. Sometimes he will only nap for a half hour..other times up to 2 hrs. He naps in between each feeding for the most part

4. How do you "play" with your DC? And how long do you play with him/her?

I sing to him, talk to him, and kiss him all over. How long depends on how long he's awake for.

5. Do you have a "schedule" or is your day pretty much based on DCs routine? What does a typical day look like for you?

At the moment he's eating at 6am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm, 12am, 3am, ect.. in between each time (other than over night) I play with him and he falls back to sleep

6. When are you going back to work?

At 12 weeks and I don't even want to think about it because I REALLY don't want to go back

Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

1. How long is your DC sleeping at night? Does he/she have a "bedtime" and if so, what is it? Where is he/she sleeping?

We have no set bedtime. We put her in her crib 2 days ago and so far she's been sleeping great....and so have I. Last night she woke up every 3 hours to eat. I think she's going through a growth spurt...because before then...she was waking up every 4-5 hours at night.

2. Are you bottle or breast feeding and how oftem does DC eat?

I am EBF and give her an occasional bottle of pumped BM so she gets used to it. Like i said before she's been eating more frequently the past few days. every 2-3 hours during the day...but sometimes she just sleeps ALLL DAY LONG....and wont eat for a lot longer.

3. How often does DC nap and how long? Where does he/she nap?

She naps wherever she falls asleep. Sometimes on her swing, sometimes on her boppy pilliow next to me on the couch....sometimes in her crib. We do not have a set nap schedule. sometimes she's wide awake from 10-2 other times she's passed out for hours. Yesterday we went to NYC to hang out with my friends....She fell asleep in the car at 1:45 and didnt wake up until 5:30....ate and fell back asleep.

4. How do you "play" with your DC? And how long do you play with him/her?

I do tummy time with her...I put her in her swing....i sing and talk to her and make funny faces and noises. I put her in her play mat....i walk around with her. I really have no idea how to "play" with her...there isn't much to do. I play with her whenever she is up.

5. Do you have a "schedule" or is your day pretty much based on DCs routine? What does a typical day look like for you?

We do NOT have a schedule. Everything pretty much revolves around when she wants to eat. I am dying for her to get her vaccinations so i can get out of the house. Yesterday....walking around the city...i felt like such a new person. I hate being stuck in the house when its really cold. We wake up I feed her, change her, play with her....when she naps....i take a shower, get dressed....clean up...and thats pretty much it. I go out to long island to visit my parents twice a week and we spend the day there (I live in Queens).

6. When are you going back to work?

I am going back to work in five months. When i go back, I hope to go back part time for another 6 months.

Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

1. How long is your DC sleeping at night? Does he/she have a "bedtime" and if so, what is it? Where is he/she sleeping?
~ DS is 5 weeks old. He eats every 2-3 hours and will usually (*not all the time) fall asleep at the end of each feed. So, he sleeps about 2-2.5 hours at a time. A couple of times he went 4 hours between feeds, which means that he slept about 3 hours. This is precious and rare.

2. Are you bottle or breast feeding and how oftem does DC eat?
~ EBF. Frequency Answered above.

3. How often does DC nap and how long? Where does he/she nap?
He naps on the same schedule as above. I learned that the 1st 3 months or so, an infant needs to sleep 16-18 hours a day and they have no circadian rhythm or concept of day/night. He naps in the mei tei wrap, in his moses basket or in the arm's of any visitors we may have for the day. I reserve his bed for night time sleeping only.

4. How do you "play" with your DC? And how long do you play with him/her?
~I'm not really sure how to play with him yet. Chat Icon I talk to him when he's awake. I sing (very off key), we dance, and sometimes I let him stare off into the abyss.

5. Do you have a "schedule" or is your day pretty much based on DCs routine? What does a typical day look like for you?
~No schedule....I can barely recognize a pattern. He eats every 2-3 hours and sleeps most in betweens. He has about 3 or 4 awake periods in between feeds throughout the day. That's when we "play". I allow him to guide me and will do so for the first few months. At this stage, his wants are his needs. I really believe that to deny him of anything would affect his sense of security and trust. So...I am his slave and happy to be such.

6. When are you going back to work?
~Yikes. This is hard for me to answer. I work as a Director for a non-profit agency. I'm supposed to go back March 1st, when he'll be 10 weeks old. I am highly doubting that I'll be returning this early. Poverty is more desirable to me at this point.

Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

Hi all!
Ethan is 4 weeks old today. We eat every 2-3 hours from the bottle. My answers are very similar to all of yours: when he is awake we sing, dance, lay on the floor, tummy time and his favorite, the swing. He loves to stare outside and he also loves just laying on his changing table and me talking to him.

He has a nap in the late morning and again in the afternoon. I don't call this a schedule- just a pattern I notice. I do, however, put him in his pjs, set the lights low and put him down for bed in his crib after his 7:30pm feeding. He then wakes up around 11pm for bottle then sleeps till 2am-bottle, wakes up at 5am-bottle and then sleeps til 8:30am. When he awakes at 8:30am he talks to himself in his crib and I usually let him chill there till he cries(about a half an hour)
I am giving him more food so hopefully the night stays this way-this past weekend he was up every 1 hour and 45min so I finally up'd his food intake to 5 oz at night.

When can they see clearly and when can they smile? I swear I think he smiles at me-probably gas:)

Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

DS had his one month check up today! He has gained 1lb4oz since birth.

1. How long is your DC sleeping at night? Does he/she have a "bedtime" and if so, what is it? Where is he/she sleeping?

We have had some nights where he's gone 5-6 hrs! We don't wake him up at night to eat.

2. Are you bottle or breast feeding and how oftem does DC eat?

We're bottle feeding and during the day DS has 4oz every 3-3 1/2 hrs. At night, he goes as long as he can - anywhere from 3-6 hrs.

3. How often does DC nap and how long? Where does he/she nap?

DS isn't a great napper - he pretty much naps where he is. His best naps are when he's being held. He also loves to nap in his carseat when we go out.

4. How do you "play" with your DC? And how long do you play with him/her?

We usually sing and talk. I sit him in his boppy and we play. I tried to introduce toys last week but, he was more interested in the singing. We use the bouncy/swing but, usually, he falls asleep in there for a short nap.

5. Do you have a "schedule" or is your day pretty much based on DCs routine? What does a typical day look like for you?

No schedule - we work around him. Usually, I try to get out in the morning to take a walk around the mall depending on how good our night was.

6. When are you going back to work?

I'm scheduled to go back on March 15 when DS is 12 weeks. I may go back sooner and just do part time for all of March but, we'll see!

Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

OK, so I am a little past the 1 month mark with DD. She will be 6 weeks tomorrow. Here are our answers!

1. How long is your DC sleeping at night? Does he/she have a "bedtime" and if so, what is it? Where is he/she sleeping?

My goodness, she is sleeping anywhere from 2 hours to 3 and a half (the most we have gotten so far) She sleeps in her crib and has no real established bedtime yet.

2. Are you bottle or breast feeding and how oftem does DC eat?

I am EBF DD right now and she still has moments where she is eating every 2 hours. But she has been getting closer to every 3 hours lately.

3. How often does DC nap and how long? Where does he/she nap?

I am really bad. Have not established a routine with this yet. She is mostly sleeping on me. She is definintely an "arm baby" who wants to be held all the time.

4. How do you "play" with your DC? And how long do you play with him/her?

5. Do you have a "schedule" or is your day pretty much based on DCs routine? What does a typical day look like for you?

I have no schedule... just go with the flow!

6. When are you going back to work?

I will be going back to work in April 15th... being off for 18 weeks.

Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

Hi! I hope everyone is doing well and I'm sure is as incredibly busy as I am (I had no idea how much work this would be!)

1. No bedtime, he seems to be mostly awake from 3pm until 2am and then has a 3 hour schedule (sleeps 3 hr then eats) from 2am until 3pm. i really hope this changes. i don't know what to do about it.

2.bf I feed him every 2-3hr and he is always hungry. and i always have to unlatch him he almost never comes off on his own.

3. he falls asleep on me after eating, i slowly lower him into his bouncy-chair thing where he'll sleep for maybe 15minutes and then figure out i put him down, cries, then the cycle all over again.

4. i talk and sing to him. i am pretty sick of listening to myself. i do the tummy time but i feel like i'm torturing him. he likes to look at anything on the ceiling, mostly fans.

5. no schedule and i have to go back to work in 2 weeks (part time) !

I love him !

Re: mommies with 1 month olds... check in!

Gavin is almost 5 weeks...

He eats 4-5 oz every 3-4 hours. (Bottle)

He sleeps for like 2 hour stretches during the day, and 4 at night..thank god!

I have him in a cradle in our room, but have recently ntroduced the crib..for naps during the day..he likes it, and doesn't seem to notice a difference. Sometimes he naps in the swing, to..but not for too long, like half hour.

He loves the gymini mat, and loves being on his tummy! He rolls to his side, then eventualy to his back and laughs...

We play mostly on with the gymini, and he also likes the bouncy!
