Mold in the bathroom - what to do?
My bathroom ceiling is covered in mold, which we periodically clean off. Is there anyway to prevent this from happening? There is no vent in the bathroom, and we cant install one bc we are in a co-op. We keep the window cracked but it doesnt help.
Anything we can do? Whats the best way to remove it when we do clean it? All the moisture is also making the paint on the ceiling start to peel.

Re: Mold in the bathroom - what to do?
is it possible to re-rock the ceiling with the proper sheetrock to prevent mold (water resistant for bathrooms?) There is also an oil primer which will prevent water from seeping in, then paint over with a semi-gloss paint. Eggshell and flat paint take water in much more rapidly than semi or gloss paint

I would re-drywall the ceiling if possible but definitely re-paint with mildew resistant primer and paint. You shouldn't use regular paint cause the same thing will happen.

Re: Mold in the bathroom - what to do?
If you can't do the above suggestions you should try to clean it first with bleach. When you remove it - then paint with a paint that resists mold and mildew. A regular paint won't work. We had that problem in our old co-op b.c we couldn't do a fan either and there was only a little window in the shower/bath and it wasn't big enough to help with the condensation. Once we did the above and painted it using a mold/mildew resistant paint it didn't come back.

clean with bleach, prime with mold and mildew resistant primer and buy the kitchen and bath paint from Benjamin Moore. We painted our bathroom two years ago with this and nothing is peeling and we have never had mold either. We also do not have a vent in our bathroom, but we hope to put one in next year. GL!

ok stupid question, how does one clean the ceiling with bleach without it dripping all over your head?

Spray onto a rag and than wipe. Or spray onto the ceiling (of course not standing underneath) and than wipe. Mix 1 part bleach with 1 part water. And open the window.
