MMR Vaccine
Hi ladies,
Does anyone know where to get more info on the MMR vaccine? Just curious bc I know that's the one with the controversy and my dr. wanted to give if to my son yesterday at his 15 month check up. I told her I just wanted to hold off a bit. The dr said my son didn't show any signs of delays so it should be ok, but I said if she even had to consider that then that's scary. I've given all vaccines so far this is just the one that my friends in the development field said they would hold off until 2years old when the blood-brain barrier closes and there are less chances of issues.
Thoughts? We are going to Disney end of Sept and she said he should get it before being on an airplane.
Sorry if this is controversial. Any feedback would help!

My DD didn't get it until 2. My ped didn't see any reason to do it earlier being that she wasn't in daycare and he is well aware of the fears many parents have. Also, we flew to Turks & Caicos when she was 19 months and he also was ok with that so if you want to hold off I would definitely double check on the flying thing.

Thank you! That's good to know. I don't want to put him in danger if he could get them, but I would also like holding off on exposing him to the vaccine a little longer if possible.

My DS just got his at 15months.
I had zero issue with it.
I would look at the CDC website. Most artilces on it are very biased one way or the other.

My husband is a ped and i trust him and my sons ped so we gave it when he was supposed to get it. I know there is a lot of different view but my son is in daycare and I didn't want to take the chance.
Plus there is no prof that that shot causes Autism. That idea was turned down because the research was false.
But with that said you have to do what you think is right for your LO. Your LO dr. should have a flyer that gives you background on the shot.

I gave it on schedule - the one thing I did do was split up the MMR and chickenpox as I didn't like giving 2 live vaccines together.

I gave it on time and DD had no issue with it.
Her only reaction was a fever exactly 7 days after the shot.
I wouldn't delay it if you are travelling.
I'd do it on time.
I was more scared of the diseases it protects against than the shot

Gave it at 14 mths b/c of a scare near us. I didnt plan to give it that early but I was freaked out (Someone was diagnosed with measles in our area at the time). Had zero issues from it, and just recently gave the booster at 4 yo well visit.
I would give it before going to WDW, everyone and anyone goes there from all over the world.

Thank you everyone! You have been very helpful and put my mind at ease a little. Maybe we will give it to him end of Aug a month before we go since he will be almost 21 months. I think that sounds like a good plan then!
ETA- he also doesn't say many words at all yet so I just wanted to make sure I did the right thing for him

for me.. it was never so much the MMR as much as it was the giving her lots of drugs at once. I just give the MMR by itself. Frankly, all major ones I give solo like chicken pox too. Some are combined like literally MMR and IPV and DTap, so they are always done by themselves with a minimum 8 week hold between.
Just my $0.02

Just out of curiousity... what does having words have to do with anything? My son literally just got the mmr shot yesterday at 16 months... he doesn't have many words yet. Now I am scared i made the wrong decision.....

I wouldn't stress Im sure it's fine! I think most 16 month olds don't have very many words anyway. It was just a consideration with the development. My dr wasn't too concerned though that's why she said she was sure it was ok.

Your doctor actually said she doesn't see any delay so it should be fine for DC to have MMR? That is a bizarre statement to make. The large majority of Peds follow the AAP guidelines which support giving MMR around 14 -24 months regardless of any delay that may be afflicting the child.
To answer your question, DS got his MMR at 18 months. He had no side effects.
To runnergirl77, my DS was saying minimal around 16 months. About a month ago (19 months and after MMR) he turned into a total motor mouth. Give it some time.
