missed miscarriage

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and just seeking some advice and support. I recently went to the OB for my 12 week sonogram expecting to get a picture of a healthy baby and was told that the baby had died about 4 weeks ago. It was a total shock to me and my husband, as I had no signs or symptoms. Which I'm having a hard time understanding. I'm scheduled for a d&c on monday but don't really know what to expect in terms of recovery what's typical and what's not? There are so many different opinions out there to when its safe to start trying again Any thoughts? I'd really appreciate anyone sharing their experiences with me.

Hello,

I just wanted to say that I'm very sorry for what you must be going through. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would go by what your doctor says as far as when to start trying again, as well as when you and DH feel emotionally ready. Recently, I had a failed pregnancy as well, and even though I'm physically able to try to get pregnant again now, I'm not sure I'm emotionally there yet.

You are in my thoughts! Chat Icon

PS: I wish I had more answers to your questions but my situation was a bit different since my pregnancy was ectopic... Hang in there for responses - I'm sure people will be around this afternoon, but this website is the most active on weekdays. Chat Icon

I had a missed miscarriage in Auguast. I was 11 weeks along, expecting a healthy report as well. I still had all my symptoms! When they confirmed that there was no heartbeat, they scheduled a D&C for the following day. I know exactly how you feel, my heart goes out to you.Chat Icon Chat Icon FM me if you need to talk!

As far as the D&C goes, it's a fairly routine procedure. Mine was done at Southside Hospital, they were very nice there. Expect some cramping and bleeding after the procedure. Mine was on a Turrsday, and I didn't feel ok physically until Sunday morning. I bled for almost 3 weeks. The bleeding is stressful b/c it's a constant reminder of what happened, but it will stop. Time definitely makes it better.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: missed miscarriage

i had a missed m/c too...this was over a year ago tho. The d&c isnt so bad...you're put under so you don't feel anything. When i woke up in recover, they gave me some pain medicine since i was cramping a bit. I only bled for a few days after, and it as pretty light. They also gave me some pills to make my uterus contract back to normal size..i had to take them a few times a day..that was the only part that stunk b/c it made me cramp. Your periods may be off for a cycle or 2 as well...it took me almost 7 weeks after my d&c to get my first af...but i know some people that it only took 4 weeks. Hang in there....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: missed miscarriage

I'm so sorry for your loss. I experienced the same thing in April, went to the dr. at 11 weeks and no heartbeat. It is heartbreaking.

As far as the D&C, the recovery is very easy. that day you may be tired and have some cramping and spotting for a few days. Limit lifting for a few days. Dr. will tell you no BD'ing until you come in for the follow up.

It's very hard to prepare for what comes emotionally afterwards. Your hormones are still crazy, it can take up to 3 months for all of the pregnancy hormone to disappear from your system.

Take it easy on yourself emotionally, it is a loss and you will go through the grieving process.

i had a miscarriage at 16 Weeks with no symptoms at all.. its such a terrible thing to go through. i am so sorry Chat Icon Chat Icon

as far as when to try again... every doctor is different, there is not set time on when to try again.. so my doctor told me after my first cycle, but i went to switch doctors because i wasnt too fond of him... and my new doctor told me to wait 3 months.. so we were not "trying" but we were not being careful either, we are currently still trying 4 months later..

i wish you the best of luck.. just let your body tell you what to do... you will know when! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I just had a D&C 4 days ago, for a mc at 8 weeksl. I have to say that physically, it was NOT as bad as I had anticipated. I had the option of going to sleep with anastesia, and that is what I chose, but they could not go through with it b/c I had been chewing gum, and the anasthesiologist said that I could either wait 3 hours, or just have a local.
I simply could not wait any longer, so I opted for the local. It wasn't so bad, but I definitely recommend being totally OUT if you can.

I had the D&C Thursday, with cramping right after, which was controlled with motrin. I went to work on Friday, but would not recommend that. I recommend taking a day or two off. I have had very minor spotting since Thursday, and some slight cramping here and there.

Overall, the physical part of this was cake compared to the emotional part.

Since I just went through this, I can really empathize with you, and am here for you if you need to talk or any further info. Chat Icon

Re: missed miscarriage

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it's so hard.

I had a miscarriage 2 months ago and had a D&C. Like an above poster said, if you can be totally out I would go with that. I was.

Physically it wasn't that bad. Some cramping, spotting and discomfort. Emotionally it's been tough. I woke up from the anesthesia crying. It was less than 24 hours for us from the time we found out it was a miscarriage to the time the D&C was finished so I think it was just too much too fast.

I was up and around in a couple of days, but did start to bleed again over the next 2 weeks if I did any exercise so I would recommend staying out of the gym for 2 weeks.

It's 2 months later and I don't think my hormones are right though. I've got acne, and some bloating. The doctor told me it takes about 6 months to get fully back to normal so I am thinking that's what it might be.

We were told that we can start trying after my second cycle but I am waiting one more just to be on the safe side.

I hope this helps. I know what you are going through and I am so sorry for your loss.
