might be a dumb question - no haters need enter!

Chat Icon

so i was thinking about how we wash all the baby's clothes in frangrance and dye free detergent, and use baby-safe products for bath... and i was wondering if i should consider changing my body wash.

the ones i use now are pretty well scented, and i also plan on breastfeeding (yeah i know they say not to use soap on your breasts but think about it, that's pretty much impossible Chat Icon).

what do you all think?

I plan on washing myself with cetaphil the first couple of months. Especially since we are BFing.

I think i remember a section in baby bargains that addressed this and they recommended that you do you a different body soap, shampoo, conditioner. They made a recommendation regarding brand, but I can't remember right now. They said babies are all over you, put your fingers in their mouth, bite your hair, etc.

i used the same soap/shampoo/conditioner. i didnt use the soap on my nips but everyone else, just as i usually would. the only thing i didnt use was perfume. BF could be messy in the beginning so i always had a burp cloth handy

Well I guess we shouldn't be using Irish Spring and Brillo Pads, right??? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon (sorry I couldn't resist!!!)..

I have SUPER DUPER sensitive skin, so i'm really averse to perfumes and fragrance, I try to buy soaps without that already (whatever's on sale); the shampoo and conditioner is a good point though, I'm tempted to use the same as the baby will be using??? I'll check the baby bargains book tonight also and see what they say!!

Not a dumb question AT ALL, btw!!!!

I definitely changed my body wash & refrained from using perfumes. I already use natural makeups.

I think as long as you don't soap them up and makes sure you rinse really well in the shower, it should be fine.

I use Aveeno body wash and organic, fragrance free shampoo and conditioner.

I started when I was pregnant and have continued. I love the results!

It definitely depends. DS has sensitive skin like me. The first time DH held baby G he had such an awful reaction. I had a feeling he would have my skin so I guess I was more aware of it. If he had DH skin it would not have been an issue.

DH you could brillo & irish springChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: might be a dumb question - no haters need enter!

I didn't change mine with DD and didn't have any problems.

I think that the reason that they recommend that you use the baby wash for DC's clothes isn't so much because they could have a reaction to the scent and dye, but because they are specially formulated to not remove the fire retardancy from the baby's clothing.

I had asked the ped when I knew that DD didn't have a reaction to our clothing which was washed in regular detergent if I could switch and she told me that they don't recommend it for the first year for the reason mentioned above. Regular detergent is too harsh.

And no questions are dumb Chat Icon
