Re: Metformin / Clomid
I took Clomid, although it didn't work for me, and it was too help me ovulate. I don't ovulate every month and the Clomid is supossed to help develop eggs. However, it is also an estrogen blocker and a common side effect is thinning of the uterine wall. It thinned my uteris so much that I had to stop taking it. But, I have many friends that conceived on Clomid in month 1 or 2 with no issues.
I don't know about Metformin.

Re: Metformin / Clomid
give u the proper terms lol
This medication is used to treat infertility in women. It works by stimulating an increase in the amount of hormones that support the growth and release of a mature egg (ovulation). This medication is not recommended for women whose ovaries no longer make eggs properly (primary pituitary or ovarian failure).
i did 5 cycles of this and never responded..we switched to femara and injectables
Metformin (INN, pronounced /m?t'f?rm?n/, met-fawr-min; originally sold as Glucophage) is an oral antidiabetic drug in the biguanide class. It is the first-line drug of choice for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, in particular, in overweight and obese people and those with normal kidney function.[1][2][3] Evidence is also mounting for its efficacy in gestational diabetes, although safety concerns still preclude its widespread use in this setting. It is also used in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome, and has been investigated for other diseases where insulin resistance may be an important factor.
i take it for my sugar...very common given to girls with PCOS
hth! is ur doc thinking of putting u on?

Thank you Gina! You are very Helpful as always to me!!! No, she is not. I have heard about these pills and did not know what they were for. I do not have diabetes..but I am not sure if Ovualte every month because my cycles have been giving me some problems lately. After I have my hysterscopy done Thursday I should have the answers I need and find out if there is a problem. Just nervous as hell!! I'm thinking of everything I want to ask! As my cycle is practically gone now would be a good time to start an test with an OPK, right?

Re: Metformin / Clomid
I would start on cd 8 and keep going...its so frustrating when u have long and or irregular cycles to figure out when u ovulate...I wasted so much time and money on opks when I was never even ovualating..I mean most ovulate around cd 14 but some cd 10 some cd 20 even cd 40...could be anywhere really, just have to keep testing or temping..lots of girls swear by the CBEFM..hopefully with this new cycle u got a positive!!
Good luck!!!!!!

Yes, there is! The prescription comes with a warning in the pharmacy fact sheet.
Clomid helps you produce more follies and better quality eggs when you already O on your own like I did. Each mature egg is a chance for a fertilized egg.
I am now 29 weeks with After 50 mg of Clomid & an IUI.

Yes. Due to the fact I'm young (26) and on Clomid I'm very high risk for multiples.

Re: Metformin / Clomid
thats so funny....i was just reading about those two
Clomiphene (KLOHM-uh-feen) (Clomid, Serophene) — the first choice therapy to stimulate ovulation for most patients.
Metformin taken with clomiphene — may be tried if clomiphene alone fails. The combination may help women with PCOS ovulate on lower doses of medication.
Gonadotropins (goe-NAD-oh-troe-pins) — given as shots, but are more expensive and raise the risk of multiple births compared to clomiphene.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (especially since I couldn't swallow pills until I was 18), but I don't think anything else is the size of a bc pill.
Since you are just tarting your TTC journey, you may not even have to deal with any of this stuff.

Re: Metformin / Clomid
i had a question about clomid- i was told by my RE that i am going to start on this as soon after i get AF in a few weeks- but i read on google that it can thin out your lining, is this true? I am already taking estrogen pills to increase my estrogen/lining to get AF in the first place so i'm just concerned! TIA!

yes a main side effect of clomid is thin lining. if you already have lining issues i def wouldnt do clomid as it almost always exacerbates the problem. talk to your RE because you can try femara which has similar ovulatory results without the thin lining side effects.

i did 5 rounds of clomid days 5-9..we started at 50 then another 50 then 100(what u r on now) and then 150 and 150
all depends on what the doc says..100 is a typical amount
i didnt respond to it at all and we moved on to other meds

Ok thanks- this will be my first cycle so I just think its odd they would start me at 100mg right away seeing that most people start with 50mg.. i left a message w/ the nurse and hopefully will get an answer this afternoon. Thanks for your help!

I dont remember what I first started at- I know I had to take 5 pills- one a day for 5 days. I responded TOO well to it and ended up with 9 huge follicles. They didn't want me to end up octomom so DH and I couldn't try that first month.
Now I take half a pill for 3 days. I had to buy a pill cutter to cut them in half.

They are about twice the size of BCP (maybe even bigger). I only take half so I have to cut them. You can always get a pill cutter, cut it in half and just take the two halves seperately if its easier.
