Re: Manhattan commuters

I'm here. LIRR was fine this am. Penn was normal - maybe a few extra cops that I saw. They have baracades set up along 34th Steet and along 7th AVe so I'm assuming the commute home may be alittle crazy.

Not me but my father drove in this am for a 9:30 meeting down near Wall Street. He said getting in was super easy, no one on the road. I imagine getting out will be more difficult depending on his timing and the Pope near ground zero.

Re: Manhattan commuters

I did, no choice. I take the express bus from Queens.
LIE was fine, going thru the tunnel a breeze.
Let's see what happens tonight though.

Here! The trains in Queens were fine, but once I got into the city, the 4/5/6 were packed. I was laaaaaaate.

Me...we drive though. We hardly hit any traffic. One our easiest commutes so far.

I come on NJ Transit through Hoboken - it was actually one of my best days of commuting ever. So quiet.

Re: Manhattan commuters

It was completely fine. Less people on the subway, so it was actually a really pleasant commute.

I'm slightly concerned with the evening commute as I'm only a couple of blocks away from MSG, but I don't think it'll be a shitshow. Maybe some small delays? But then, I don't take the LIRR, I take the subway and have a few ways to get home.

I only had to commute from the UWS to Financial District but OMG it was amazing, I got a seat! The emptiest subway car I remember!

No problems on the subway this morning. Quite a few people in my office took the day off so as not to deal with any commuting issues. I'm by St. Pat's so I think if I was going to have issues it would've been yesterday, but no problems going home last night either.

Re: Manhattan commuters

Today is probably the BEST day to commute because so many people stayed home/worked from home out of fear of the bad commute!

The city is empty. It was super easy getting in today - I work in midtown.

It was empty coming in.. but going home is going to be awful. I'm going to Brooklyn.

My DH's office is near PEnn and they actually just closed in anticipation of the crowds.

A friend is up by Columbus Circle and keeps posting pictures and videos of all the people up there for the Central Park visit

there are a TON of people here!

That is awesome! I almost wish I was there today- I love those rare occasions when the city is creepily empty!

Photo from NBC's Harry Smith shows the crush of people lining up on NYC's Central Park West for a chance to see Pope Francis.

Re: Manhattan commuters

AAAARRRRGGHHHHHH
Stuck on the express bus at 38th street for 25 minutes trying to turn onto 2nd Avenue to the tunnel.
Why???
The Pope's motorcade is going down 7th Avenue.
Love it when the media suggests taking mass transit.

I was in and out of the city in under 40 minutes each way. It usually takes me way longer.

Got home faster than usual, nothing worth noting about the commute at all.

Re: Manhattan commuters

My commute was completely fine to and from.

I work in lower midtown and comparing to an average lunch time, the street were almost completely empty today!
