Luggage: hard or soft?

Do you find the hard luggage pieces protect better than the soft ones?

Or do they just get dented and beat up?

I prefer soft luggage. It's lighter and it's a little more forgiving if I have too much stuff to pack.

I prefer soft luggage as well - and it tends to be a little lighter which is good with the weight restrictions of bags.

soft because it is lighter and I tend to overpack so I need a little give. Also, I don't really carry anything in my checked luggage that needs to be protected so much, just clothes really. Anything breakable I would try to carry on usually.

without a doubt -- softer. the hard can weight a little more and honestly, at the end of a trip when you might have purchased souvenirs or clothes -- you don't want to worry about weight.

Re: Luggage: hard or soft?

I have always used soft.

I feel like they are more practical to store, to get in and out of the truck of a car etc.
