Love my dr at RMA but think it's time to step it up- SIRM update on bottom

Thinking of consulting with Dr. Tortiello or Dr. Wang. Feel I need more of an out of box thinker- my dr is wonderful at RMA but I feel I need someone who will think out of box and do more immune testing before I entertain donor eggs.

I know dr t is a wait. Should I meet with dr t or consult w dr wang? I heard great things about both but since I have limited amount of ins left for IVF and I'm older with one ovary etc I feel I need experience dr. I don't mind waiting for dr t- just wanted opinions from ladies on here.

Does anyone know what ins SIRM takes? I'm empire plan- united health care- teacher
Thanks in advance

Re: Love my dr at RMA but think it's time to step it up- SIRM

I love both.
Dr. Wang is young and more of a go getter while Dr. T is calm and less aggressive with treatments. I feel both can benefit your case. They are both great. There's a new Dr there (a woman) who is building up patients so she is quickest to get a consult with but Dr. Wang should just be a few weeks. You can even request to be on a waiting list for cancellations. The staff was always great to me.
Just make sure when you go for your consult, bring all records, esp of any immune testing and blood test results.
For me, Dr. T worked the best for my case bc he was pretty knowledgeable about endo which is my main issue.
As for insurances, they accept most insurance plans. Def call them to see but I know they work with pretty much all.
FM me if you have any questions

I actually had consults with both. While I do like them both; theres something about Dr. Wang that I liked so much better. I guess because I felt he explains in more detail and will draw a map for you if you didnt understand something. lol

I considered consulting there for a lot of the same reasons, but they are OON (I have the same insurance) and the monitoring seemed like it was going to be really hard since they don't have a satellite out here. Are you in the city?

My 17 month old twins are a result of SIRM after 4 unsuccessfull cycles elsewhere. And yes, they take your insurance. I have the same. Good luck. I worked with both doctors and loved them. Dr. T. Was my doctor, but was on vacation for a part of my cycle so I saw Dr. Wang.

Dr.T for sure Chat Icon especially with limited insurance left, I'd hold out for the best. There's a reason he has such a long wait for a consult.

Re: Love my dr at RMA but think it's time to step it up- SIRM

Just want to add that they do monitoring all day. Dr. Wang is 8-4pm and Dr. T is 9-5pm. I know Babydreams cycled with me over there and she is a teacher and would get the after school appts. I would always go for the mid morning. Either way, they try and give you what you need. Also, with my last IVF I was there much less for monitoring then RSoNY. They give you a calendar customized to your cycle and it's a well oiled machine the way they monitor. You can also choose to do BW at quest labs like I did for beta and hormone checks. So in the end, I thought it would be a nightmare cycling there but it worked out better than expected. If you go for the immune testing, you can do it there through reprosource or have them come to your house for an additional fee. I'm so glad I had that done bc it ruled out many things for us.

I'm not in city but if this is guy that can help me out. I will make it work no matter how inconvenient.
Lillie's thanks for info. I can def get there for pm appts after school and can stay in city for early monitoring before work. I would make it work if this is last shot I have.

Not on city but could be since I could stay in city and go to early am appts or take an afternoon spot right after school.

Re: Love my dr at RMA but think it's time to step it up- SIRM

Dr. T did not get me pregnant but I do believe his IVF cycle the month prior inadvertently suppressed my endo so much that I was able to conceive. Also during my IVF retrieval, he spent an extra 20 minutes flushing out my ovaries and tubes to get as many eggs as possible (they wouldn't release unfortunately) but somehow I got pregnant from my completely blocked tube so there's a chance he flushed out that tube lol We both laughed about it bc we don't know how it happened but it could have been all the factors combined. I truly loved his professionalism, his heartfelt dedication to girls with infertility and his true commitment to achieving pregnancy- not just taking your money like other places. For me, he was worth the trip from LB to NYC.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Wang. He and I just clicked and I liked his approach so much.

I only have experience with Dr T but I think you're in great hands with either bc I've heard excellent things about Dr W. I love Dr T he got me twins on the first ivf with lots of autoimmune stuff. :)!

ggt, I was OON too (the Empire plan, teacher too) and I went to NSLIJ. They covered 80% and I was responsible for 20% after we met the inital $1000.00 deductible. I was only a p/t teacher making so little, and the doctors there agreed to accept whatever the insurance sent them! See if they'll do this for you too.
I did have to pay OOP for meds, all bloodwork and embryo cryogenics.

Thanks but I feel NSLIJ wont be able to help me. I will look into the OON for SIRM though. I've been fortunate at this point to be covered for everything so if its OON, then its OON. this is my last shot.

I've heard great things about both so I don't think you can go wrong with either. I guess it just depends on if you rather get started quicker or wait until Dr. T opens up since I heard he has a long wait. Best of luck!! Chat Icon

Got an appt with Dr. T on 11/17 which isn't too bad. Was taking a month off anyway after my failed IVF. I'm on waiting list for cancellation- I was debating him or Wang but I went with Dr. T .

2 months isn't so bad! I had to wait about 3 but I wasn't very flexible with timing. I hope it goes well!

The busiest time for all RE's are January. This is a great time to get an appt! They have many clientele from Jersey and PA so if it's a crappy day, call to see if they have cancellations and they can fit you in sooner.

She put me on waiting list for cancellations. I asked her if he takes my insurance and was specific when I said empire plan united health care and she said Dr. T did. I asked if he took it out of network or fully and sha said he took my plan.
Only thing she said is first appt is coded as a consult not infertility.
