Well we might never know, Ethan is "supposedly" dead..
And I'm not quite convinced that Desmond has anything to do with "the others"
And YES that is right, Desmond told Jack he was a doctor in the stadium.. hmm... weird.....
Somehow I have this feeling that as the season progresses, we are going to learn that there is a specific reason why every person was brought to that island, and they are going to see connections from their past that lead them there..
And I wonder if Desmond had more of an impact on Jack's past life than just that one brief meeting in the Stadium.. he immediately knew who Desmond was, but they'd only met for that brief moment in the Stadium? Hmmm.....
I am pretty sure that Ethan is dead- Charlie shot him like 10 times and they disposed of the body.
As far as Desmond- he called him brother- I think that is interesting. Does anyone know why Charlie's dad was in Australia- maybe he jad another family and they are actually related. Its just so wierd how he recognized him right away.

Really? I didnt think it was obvious. I thought it just concluded what Jacks dad was telling him about giving patients hope and not being so down all the time.

That "lost" isn't the the fact that they are stranded...But rather they are all there because they have become lost in thier lives...and there are there to find themselves and their purpose
VERY well put...  I think that Locke is the perhaps the only person from the crash survivors that really "gets" thisl. that they are there to find their purpose, and the fact that you need to believe that it was fate or destiny or whatever you believe that brought them all there... Locke gets this the most because the most profound thing happened to him, the fact that he regained the use of his legs after being paralyzed.. something noone else knows just yet

ahhhhh the brother thing maybe! he called him brother in the stadium too and how come they were the only 2 in there running???? and he is a doctor too or was????? like his dad, was???? very interesting!

I know I got SO SPOILED watching the DVDs all in a row , no commercials, now having to wait week to week just blows
I knew that they would focus either on the hatch , or the fate of the raft people last night .. not both
actually on Howard Stern yesterday morning, they said they heard a rumor that the hatch wasn't going to be revealed at ALL until Episode 3 .. so that was obviously a false rumor being thrown out there to sway everyone
I have no doubt really that everyone from the raft survived, except of course we dont quite yet understand if Shannon actually saw Walt or what is going on with him just yet

You know what Shelly, you make a good point... I just figured that Desmond said "brother" in a slang way, and that it was a way for the audience for us to realize he was the same person in the Hatch when he said "hey brother" again to Jack ...
BUT would that not be the most interesting twist if they were , in fact, BROTHERS
And I do not think we were ever told why Jack's Dad was in Australia.. I only recall that Jack's Mom (or stepmom) had called Jack to her house and said he needed to go find his Dad in Australia, Jack initially resisted (I am guessing he had written off his Dad at this point) , that the Mom was worried that the Dad had finally gotten into harms' way due to his alcoholisim.. but no real reason WHY the Dad was IN Australia per se
And yes I find the connections amongst the characters (shown in flashbacks) as their lives all collided in Australia, before they got on the plane, very interesting indeed!
If you go onto any Lost websites or message boards, the producers say that you can watch the episodes over and over and find subtle clues in each of them that all lead to something else..

That is really observatnt! See I never pick up on those things, but as I said the producers/writers/creator (JJ Abrams) all say that EVERYTHING means something in this show.. its amazing writing
And if anyone watched the "extra's" in the DVD set, the writers have this show "planned out" up to 6 years from now.. they already know pretty much how the entire thing is going to play out .. now THAT to me is really interesting!

The whole thing with the Quarenteen was really wierd. It is odd how the sign was on the inside of the hatch....If the hatch was supposed to be the thing that was quarenteened then the sign would be on the outside of the hatch, but since it is on the inside I am thinking the island is what needs to be quarenteened
