 | Looking to make some new friends for Amber (and for myself).. On Saturday, the kids next door had their friends over (same group of kids ranging from around four or so to about eight or nine). They "briefly" came over to our yard to collect some balls they had thrown over the fence and Amber was all excited that there would be someone for her to play with. They pretty much left after they snooped around, etc. She was crying and asking me why they didn't want to play with her I told her I would play with her and we went inside and baked cookies and played board games. It made me realize though that she needs some more social outlets; she needs friends (and maybe Mom does too). So, is there any Mom's on here with little girls in the 3-6 range that would like to get together for a playdate sometime soon? |

 | Re: Looking to make some new friends for Amber (and for myself).. Awww! My heart just broke a little for Amber!
I have 2 boys.. and they are rough and crazy. They do dial it down a bit when playing with their girl friends.. so if you ever feel like taking a trip out to a messy little hovel in Sayville, let me know!

You can also try meetup.com.. I heard it's fantastic for meeting like-minded people!

 | Re: Looking to make some new friends for Amber (and for myself).. Aww its really tough when they are left out like that. It sounds like she is on the young side of the neighborhood age group. DS is on the younger side of the boys in our neighborhood here are two things that worked for us.
We invited the younger neighborhood kids over for a playdate this got them to include DS as one of the group

I taught DS to put himself out there by simply saying Hi can I pay, or I want to play too. The older kids probably wont think to include someone unless they are directed to and the little ones wont think about it at all.

 | Re: Looking to make some new friends for Amber (and for myself).. Is Amber in preschool or dance? Jenna made lots of new friends that way.Anyway-I am in Farmingville, Jenna is 4 1/2 and would probably get along great with Amber. I'm a SAHM now too so I usually have lots of free time. Jenna has school MWF and dance Tues afternoons so Thurs is usually our best day.

does she go to pre-school or anything that lets her see friends on a regular basis?

She does go to preschool but the majority of her class is boys and the girls are very cliquey. We recently went to a birthday party where she approached the girls from her class and they basically ignored her. She went to go play with her "old school" (aka boys that she's been in class with since the beginning) friends. The problem is that they rotated the class and so new kids from same classes were introduced into her class and they already have the mentality that it's "us" against "them".

We did introduce ourselves to the neighbors, but she's the youngest in the neighborhood and I feel funny (when they have the friend over with the one close enough to her age to play) to ask if she can play too. They did invite her to an egg hunt they are having the day before Easter, so I'm hoping that will be a foot in the door for her to be in the gang.

The other issue is with the custody rotation and the fact that ex is making it difficult for her to network with other kids by being in an activity, etc. because it "cuts" into his time

We are already in a fight over religious ed/Sunday school because he refuses to take her and feels that I'm getting more time with her by picking her up/bringing her back to him on "his Sundays" There's so many activities I would love to enroll her in but I feel like it's a battle with him, not even over money but the principle of "time". It's such BS.
Thanks to everyone who responded. I'll definitely be reaching out to some of you soon: I really appreciate all of your responses hug:

 | Re: Looking to make some new friends for Amber (and for myself).. Hey where about do you live? My DD is 5 1/2 and does not really have any friends other than her 2 big cousins... they are 8 and 10.. so it's a little tough for her to play the same things they do and stuff... and honestly i dont really want to do playdates with her school friends because i am pretty sure she is switching school districts in september and i dont want her to get upset when she is taken away from them... kwim?
We are in Hauppauge if you want to talk about maybe setting something up.
