He didn't.
He lost it at school - literally. Somewhere at my son's elementary school, the janitor is sweeping it up into the garbage.
DH called me between the meeting & the dinner meeting to see how it was going. I spoke to Sharkboy (he does still have 1 double tooth yet). He said "I feel so bad for myself because the tooth fairy isn't going to know about my tooth."
I said "Are you kidding me?! It's her job to know about teeth. You don't think she's going to notice your tooth is missing??!"
He said he felt better but that he was going to draw a picture of himself with a missing tooth in case she misses it.
Of course, DH forgot to have him draw the picture & forgot the money under the pillow until I called from the train. 
I'm up in 5 hours for my train. so I won't see him tomorrow either. Although I have considered waking him up.
