DS is 19 months old and really only loves Little Einsteins, it's the only show that captures his attention.

He also LOVES Andy Cohen he will wave his finger back & forth along with Andy, when Andy shows the secret word on WWHL.

I would say dd watched an episode of elmos world a day since she was 10 or 11 months. Now she will get maybe 1-2 Sesame Street episodes or 3 depending on my level of desperation to get thing done.

i cant believe how much she picks up on from the show at 18mo. I will find her counting with Count or singing along with the ABCs(not the whole thing, she will pick up on some of the letters). I feel it reinforces what we are teaching her and it helps to hear it from different sources.

As far as background tv noise, some days I don't have the tv on at all, some days for a few hours but she dosent watch my TV shows, other than the daily show, which she loves for some reason lol

My 2.5 month old LOVES Mickeys Playhouse. He is mesmerized the entire show and kicks his feet in excitement at the songs! I put it on just in he morning while I get ready (20 minutes). I was shocked (and dismayed?) that he loved it at such a young age...

DS didn't watch tv until he was 18 months. He would watch a little here & there. When I became preggo with #2, I had some difficulties so I let him pretty much have at it.. Bad move & how he likes it on all the time even if he isn't watching.

We always have the TV on. He's 28 months and I would say only in the last month or 2 he's actually been interested in it.
He actually watches maybe an hour a day. I don't have a problem with it because he's not a kid who just "zones out" when he's watching. He laughs, he'll turn to me and talk to me about what he sees "Elmo fish!!" " super why flying!!" haha
His favorite is Super Why. He looks for the super letters and sings the alphabet with the pig- how can that be too bad for him??
I think everything in moderation is fine.

With DS, we started at 2 years old & did Mickey Mouse Clubhouse only. He watched 1 episode a day.

DD is child #2, so she started watching very early (with DS). We try to limit it now to 2 episodes MAX (usually 1 episode) a day (40 minutes). Problem is MIL who babysits a day a week has them watch MUCH more TV including crap that she's watching (think daytime talk shows non-stop). I cringe... but it's one day a week.

We will have music on much more often (kids songs).

I don't think it's ever been shown that kid's TV is educational. While it doesn't kill them, I don't think it's good.

I loved baby's first tv for my LO. The music and bright colors really stimulated them. As with anything else, all in moderation.

I have let both my kids watch TV in moderation. I am definitely laid back about it, as long as the child isn't being shortchanged on real life parental interaction and play.

Whether I think it's particularly "educational" is another story. Kids learn things like counting, ABCs, names of shapes and colors through repeated exposure to these facts. It is rote memorization. They would learn the sounds the letters make whether they heard these facts repeatedly from you, or from the Letter Factory DVD. So while I have nothing against a kid watching a little TV, I'm not super impressed by the "learning" claims people make either-- it feels like they're just justifying the TV time.

Since the first day we brought him home. He is now 2.5 years old and is now actually sitting through a full 22 minuite episode of certain shows.

Before that it was all just back ground noise with some songs or scenes cathing his attention for a few minutes.

From the day DS was a newborn he looked at the TV - but I knew he wasn't absorbing anything, it was just lihts and noise to him, just like all of his other toys that make noise and light up. Maybe around 10 mos old I put on Mickey Mouse Club House because we were going to Disney soon, just while he had his bottle, every once and a while, but he didn't really seem to care to actually sit and watch. Now at 18 mos we put it on any where from a few hours a day to nothing at all. It all depends on what we are doing for the day. I personally don't really need the TV on, so sometimes I just hook up Pandora radio and have that on if I'm home all day, but when DH gets done with work he has to go sit in from of the TV, so DS will see that. Like I said, it all depends and as long as DS isn't crying for it or learning any bad behaviors, it's all good.

since basically the day he was born. We always had the TV on, and when he was around 3 months starting watching baby einstein and the sprout channel. Now at 15 months we always have the TV on in the background, usually the sprout channel or Thomas the train. He will stop and watch for a few minutes then go back to playing. As long as he does not just sit there for hours watching tv, i see no problem with having it on.

He actually likes the into to Big Bang Theory, he always stops what he is doing and will look at the tv

Between 1.5-2 years. DD was never really that interested in tv. I do limit how much she watches to about an hour a day.

dd is 4 months now... around 3 months she started being interested in it. usually she gets 1 baby einstein a day (25-30min) and 1 mickey mouse clubhouse (30min) a day.

If we catch them staring at the tv while its on, we turn them around. They're just as happy staring at the bookshelf
