Listing house on Craig's List?
Has anyone done this? Has anyone had success doing this?
DH and I are going to try to sell our house without an agent. We are listing our home in Newsday, but I was also pondering listing it on Craig's List. I looked on the site, and people DO do this.
Is it a good idea? I was a little hesitant at first because of all the scams you hear regarding Craig's List, but then I figured it's really the same as listing your home in newsday, or MLS for that matter, right?
Any thoughts? Anyone with personal experience?

All I can say is when I was looking for a home, I also checked craigslist daily for new houses listed by owners.
Worth a shot!

the first house we were going to buy we found as a result of a craigslist posting! (we didn't buy it as a result of a really poor inspection report, but it was a really cute house)

I did it, but got a ton of junk emails/calls from agents who wanted to sell the house (even though we said no listing agents!). Didn't get much traffic at all through CL, but it helped us decide on a realtor. We sold within a month once listing with a realtor.

We listed with an agent-- but one of the places that they also posted our listing was on Craig's List, in addition to a variety of other real estate sites. I think people look there as well... we didn't for our search, but we were looking in a small town and just used a broker who specialized in the area.

Worth a try!! But make sure you're never alone at home when people come to look--make sure your DH, Dad, Brother, etc. can be there with you. Same goes for advertising in newspapers--you can't be too careful!

I think the most important thing is being sure to list the house at the right price. When we were looking I always checked craigslist for new houses

I found my house on Craiglist. It was my last resort. I was searching every site, using realtors and I just said one day oh I will just check Craigslist.. why not? I saw a pic of my house and contacted the owners and the rest is history.
