Re: LIPA
I got my bill and did not have any issues with rates going up. My bill was lower actually b/c power was out for 10 days here, so that was accounted for.
I have to go back and see what you are talking about now.

Your price per KWH is about .08 The OP is saying that her price per KWH is over $5
I know - i was agreeing with you about the daily average cost - not KWH

I think you are reading the KWH for the total days in the billing cycle. The average price of electricity you pay per day.
Mine says:
Current Month:
Days:29 kWh: 29 Cost: $5.35 Temp: 44
We used 833 KwH in 29 days. 242 of those KWH were at $0.0857 and 591 KWH were at $0.0787
If you divide your total cost by the number of days in your cycle, you should get that $ amount.

Is your bill estimated? Was it estimated last month?
Yes, the estimate every other month, so last was, this one was actual. But it has never doubled. Last winter my bill was never this high. Mabe the meter reader mis read a number

They didn't bill me during the aftermath of Sandy and when I got my most recent bill, the skipped bill was included - so I had to pay more than usual. Did they skip a bill for you making the amount due seem double?

Go outside and read your meter and compare it to what the read is on the bill. They have made mistakes before.

This confirms my decision to never put lights up. DH wanted to put them up but I said no for fear of the electric bill going up even though he insisted it wouldn't. I didn't even want to light my tree!

I think if you use LED lights, it doesn't have as big of an impact.
I'm confused how your KWH price would go up though? I would think the overall usage would be higher, thus resulting in a higher bill, but the price per KWH I would think should be the same. Weird!
