Lion King on Broadway..ARE THEY SERIOUS???

My kiddies both have fallen in love with the Lion King movie since we got it on DVD the other day! We have had a daily viewing of it since! HAHA!

So I figured ..wouldn't it be great to treat them around Christmas time to their first broadway show..

HOLY C R A P!?!? the cheapest is like $100-$150 A SEAT plus fees!! Are they kidding..way to market it to the middle class families with more than one kid..I cannot afford a show and spend $600+

That is INSANE!

I saw it the first year it opened...I have no clue what my mom spent on it (it was a gift) but I doubt it was THAT much!

So disappointing!

Sorry vent over!

That is because Broadway shows, even the Lion King, are not for small children.

That is how much tickets always are. A freakin movie is 12, shouldn't a spectacular show be more?

Re: Lion King on Broadway..ARE THEY SERIOUS???

DH took me to watch Lion King before we were married. It was a long time ago and I think they were around $100 each.

I wouldn't take the kids to a broadway show for a long time. My kids have yet to see a movie though. Older DS is 2.5.

Re: Lion King on Broadway..ARE THEY SERIOUS???

I wasn't expecting movie prices..but I have gone to many Broadway shows and never had to spend $150 for a ticket...

I wouldn't take my 2.5 yr old DS anyway...but my 4 yr old DD could DEF handle it!

This is so disappointing bc I was hoping to take my 2 year old! He loves the Lion King and we are always watching scenes from the Broadway show on u-tube and he is fasinated. I wonder if they are cheaper if you go to a matinee the day of and try to scalp tickets or buy last minute??

My mom got tickets to take us and our 4 year old and spent over $600. It's insane.

I was going to suggest this.

EVERYTHING is WAYYY overpriced these days. Eventually no one is going to be able to afford to go out and do anything!!!

IDK why the comparison with move theater tickets. Not the same... and $12 per ticket for a movie is too much... for an entire family to go it can easily be over $100.

For an entire family to go see a live show it could be over $600.

BOTH are insane if you ask me.

I went years ago when it first came out . . .don't remember the price but still remember the show. It is that amazing. A M A Z I N G!

I don't think my 2 year old would ever sit through a whole broadway show, so no matter what I wouldn't be taking them at this age.

I wasn't comparing broadway to movies at all. I was just saying that our kids haven't even been to a movie yet. We will probably take them to a movie first...before we take them to a broadway show.

I don't disagree that tickets are way overpriced these days.

Re: Lion King on Broadway..ARE THEY SERIOUS???

We did the universal studios version of the lion king while we were in Florida both of my kids were completely able to handle it. They loved it. I would love to go to the Lion King on Broadway but am waiting to take my kids until next year at the earliest and frankly will do a less expensive live show before taking them to the LK on Broadway. I agree 600 is insane. We could go on vacation for prices like that.

I think on Wednesdays lots of shows are half off if you order them at a certain ticket booth type of thing...Hoping someone can chime in with the peticulars for you Chat Icon

This "may" be it.....

While not ideal "winging" it with 2 kids in tow, if you are flexible and can do something else last minute if all else fails this could work.....My friend used to do this all the time....

As much as I love Broadway and although they are spectacular shows they are completely and utterly and INSANELY overpriced!!! Insane!!!...........to the point where there are pricing the majority of people out these days. It has nothing to do with it not being for a kid. And to be honest, as my DD gets older it would be lovely to take her to see a show, I saw my first Broadway show when I was around 6yrs old, but with the prices these days..............forget that! Re: Lion King on Broadway..ARE THEY SERIOUS???

I bought tickets while the show was in previews for when it opened almost 15 years a go and paid $80 a seat. So the current prices, while I will agree are very high, are not outrageous for 15 years later.

Honestly I think broadway shows are for a little older crowd. If I pay 400 bucks for my family to see a show then I do not want any disturbances. My kids have yet to see a show, but I am hoping when my youngest is in 1st grade.

Oh please, the Lion King (and Mary Poppins) are billed as FAMILY shows, so children ARE welcome there. Yes, even 4 year olds.

I've seen discount codes on mousesavers.com for TLK and MP, but it's not often. I would keep checking there.

Also try Kids Night on Broadway where you get free kids tickets w/ the purchase of an adult. I don't think 2012 dates and shows are up yet though

Re: Lion King on Broadway..ARE THEY SERIOUS???

Oh, I know it! We started a tradition of taking the kids to a Broadway show for their birthdays starting at age 4 (that's their gift), so obviously we are not adverse to spending some money. We took DD#1 to Bye Bye Birdie and to Mary Poppins. DD#2 turned 4 in May and we thought LK would be a good choice. O.M.G! I almost choked when I went to buy the tickets!!!! Crazy! And there were no discounts to be found. And we were now taking both girls (how could we leave the older one behind?)! I almost said forget it, but I begrudgingly bought the tickets.

We're taking them to see Anything Goes next month for DD#1's b-day and those tickets were like $50 cheaper! I think Disney knows all the tourists want to bring their kids to a "family friendly" show so they jack the prices up as far as they can. Chat Icon

ETA...at this point, I think I'm going to can the tradition by the time DC#3 turns 4. Maybe we'lll all go to a ballgame. Oh wait...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Lion King on Broadway..ARE THEY SERIOUS???

honestly I think hte idea that it's not marketed for children is BS. Disney is not stupid. they market towards parents who want to take their kids.

anyway, we are taking all of my nieces/nephews to see an Opera at the Met. Hansel & Gretel. it's their yearly holiday performance.

we got the cheapest seats and a group rate. $30.

we are going to dress those kids up in their finest and show them a glimpse of a beautiful world. and the price is right for families. I cannot wait.

maybe you can look into it. I am iffy about my son but I am taking him anyway b/c me loves music.

there are other options, and I think they should have a different price for kids on BWAY. Ridiculous.

Way to much money for a family of four. I don't see us ever taking the kids to a show with that price tag. Dh and I only go once every two years

What about TKTS? Or Ebay? If anyone you know is a teacher/nurse/anything in civil service, they sometimes have access to reduced rate tickets. I know they jack up the prices in December, but $600 is insane!
