Re: Levittown
I really didnt mean to offend anyone, I was talking about when I was growing up and the rep that Levittown had and I did say too that I was shocked that a realtor would say NOW that it is white trash b/c I hear how Levittown has changed and that there are good people who live there now meaning from this board. I said some b/c I guess for a realtor to still comment about levittown like that I guess there are some who are not but thats in every town. I didnt say anything negative about it currently. I aslo said in my original post I dont know much about it now only from what I read on here. I'm not sure how bad the wantagh schools are since they are blue ribbon schools. But hey it doesnt matter, education is what you make it.
Again sorry if I offended anyone, I was speaking of the past and commenting on a post that mentioned about the white trash comment, that it isnt like that anymore to tell her friend.

I grew up in Wantagh and DH in Westbury. We would never buy in Levittown for our own personal reasons.
Wantagh is the town right next door to levittown so as I knew how the neighborhood- levittown was growing up, I dont know of it much anymore but driving threw it to get to my gym and get to wantagh to visit my friends and family.
It seems to be changing from the posts on here but as an above poster said and I wont repeat it Im shocked her realtor called it that- Levittown is known for PWT but I cant believe a realtor would say that.
Good luck to your friend. Some good people on here live there.
and I hope not to offend anyone, its an open question.
"Some good people live there"
I do take offense to this.
Many many LIF members live in Levittown. My DH grew up here, we own a home here. Every town has people who aren't the best neighbors. The majority of those living on my block are either young couples or older couples who have been here for years. I do take offense to your characterization of the town. It's impossible to be POOR and own a home on Long Island, so that's just wrong. If you didn't have anything nice to say, you shouldn't have said anything at all. Especially since this post is days old, and you dug it up!
You know what - everyone always has something bad to say about Levittown, and you know what - That makes me feel good - because I know the people that have bad comments about Levittown wont be looking for a house here.
Levittown is made up of families, young couples, older couples that have been here for 30 plus years, and people who are just starting out. There is something in this area that I have never seen in any other town before.
Neighbors say hello to each other, come over to talk, give gifts on the holidays, bring in your newspaper or garbage cans when they see you arent home to do it yourself, snowblow your house in the winter, wash your car just because they want to.
This town is soo different and so special. If there are people out there that have so many negative comments about the town, then that is great for us - because we dont need them here Scott
I keep reading her post and honestly...she didn't say anything bad about Levittown currently..it was back when she knew it growing up...but she specifically said it sounds like it's changed a lot from the posts, etc.
Like Scott said...it's a great neighborhood. My Aunt lived there for years and still does. Just talking with her last night she was telling me what a God sent some of her neighbors are for checking in on her...heck her own Daughter in Hicksville won't even come over to visit.
Not to mention the fact it IS an up and coming town that is filled with young families just starting out. I think that's fantastic for the community. thank you , Im really happy you pointed this out, I really wasnt trying to hurt anyones feelings. I'm glad you saw that. Thanks

Re: Levittown
Oops didn't mean to start controversy I was just being honest as to what ONE of my realtors said. I eventually ended up buying the house I live in from someone else. He was very opinionated about many things. . He was also saying that b/c he was curious why we wouldn't buy a house in Jericho but thats another story and frankly none of his business LOL.
When I was originally looking for a house I got negative comments from people on the old board. But I seriously don't care I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE my neighborhood. I really really do. I get along with every single neighbor and when I had my daughter people left GIFTS on my doorstep. I really couldn't ask for a nicer place to live. So if people want to bash it I don't care b/c when I'm jogging down the street or walking my daughter around during Halloween etc. I'm enjoying every aspect of my neighborhood

Re: Levittown
I didn't think Kara was bashing Levittown now, she said when she was growing up. I can't believe a Realtor would actually verbalize WT - that's so unethical. My mom lives in Levittown - on Division Ave. and it's a really nice town(just don't buy on Division cuz it's too busy). Plus it's close to a ton of shopping and the LIRR. The taxes are kind of high, but that is Nassau for you.
Good luck to your friend.
