Re: Letter from an angry soldier

My cousin and her DH are in the marines.

When she was PG, he was in Iraq for his second tour and it was supposed to be extended but thankfully, he got to come home to his wife and newborn son. If you asked her about the war, my cousin actually spoke in the same tone and using similar language that the letter writer did.

Could this letter be fake? Sure - it's craigslist. But there certainly are people in the armed forces who feel the way that the CL poster does.

I don't believe it either.

If my husband died, the last thing I would think about is posting something on a website Chat Icon

It could be real. People are so divided about the war and could be the reason why if its real why the poster hid their identity..A reality that alot of people dont realize is that not all the servicemen feel the war is wrong and if it is a soldier there could be repercussions. I dont think its a wife cause a woman who is angry like this would probably sign her name and address too.

Well, the topic of the thread is about the letter. Not whether we agree with the war. IMO, if you want a topic to discuss whether or not you think the war is crap, then start a thread about it.

This post turned into a "is it real/isn't it real" which is also not what this thread was about...

I am actually offended by the wording/language in the letter. I can't feel sympathy for anyone that writes f*ck you to anyone. There is a much more dignified way of getting your point across.

You know what I was thinking the same thing and I am a Vet. The letter did not stir sympathy it made me feel like the person was a coward in a sense and wrote for shock value not to gain support.

Re: Letter from an angry soldier

I can't read the letter, it is blocked here at work.

but I would love to, b/c my brother served 2 tours in Iraq fighting this "crap" war...

as did a good friend of mine here a work...a woman Army reservist.

the simple fact is, when you sign on for the military, the "pick and choose your battles" is null and void.

you go where they send you, fight who they tell you...Bill of Rights thrown out the window.

I'd LOVE to read this letter.

I never said that your comment was out of line. Where did I say that. Chat Icon

The thread was about the letter. Some were questioning it's authenticity. So, I don't understand when you said that the original post is NOT about whether the letter is real or not? I don't get that logic.

I don't feel anything for this woman. Most soliders would never post something like that on the internet. There is no such thing as anonymous in the services.

If she is pizzed, she went about it the wrong way. I still have my support our troops magnet on my car and its staying there.

I have a sewer mouth when I am really ramped up and angry...when something is unfair and out of control and no one is listening. Why can a women not speak like this and be genuine?

Also, MANY people joined the military reserves in the past 20-25 years as an only way to go to college (doctors, lawyers...etc) never expecting to spend two, three, or more tours in Iraq, or have their out dates extended because the powers at be decided that they can. Many people are being called back after YEARS of being inactive because the army, marines, etc are running out of people and resources. It's common knowledge that we have a tired, underarmed military...this woman's raw emotions, if "real", expose that...and it definitely strikes nerve.

My Dad is of the old school, he does NOT agree with the war but will never speak against it OR that man people call President.

Re: Letter from an angry soldier

I don't know how real this is. THrough my experiences I have not known a soldier or a veteran to speak this way of the war. Their top priority is support the troops not necessarily the war. And this letter does not really reflect that.

My experience with military and ex-military are my bf (who is permanently injured) my best friend, and several other close friends. As much as they hated the war and being there they never once would speak that way about war/troop supporters. It literally breaks their hearts to hear people talk negatively about the war and all the men and women out there.

I am sure that this situation in this email happens all the time. My heart hurts to think about all the babies and families that will never see their loved ones. Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is why I question its validity....My heart goes out to anyone over in the Middle East or who has served!

Re: Letter from an angry soldier

I think it's about time the truth was posted

even if the letter is a fake- everything in it in true

american men are dying for a country that does not want our help- while osama bin laden is still out there and doesn't even get metioned anymore!

we are not taking care of the injuried when they come home- we should be ashamed of ourselves for what is going on

I support the troops- the ones with 1 leg- who are stuck at a hospital that is filthy-it makes me sick to think of the way we are treating our troops- exactly like the letter writer said- as disposable

I would feel the same way if I was in the letter writers shoes- sure as hell I would be cursing and ******- and maybe that was her outlet- and maybe she wants people to read that realize what is going on there- and how unjust it is-

I want all our troops home!

ITA. Needless to say the conversation I have with servicemen is a totally different conversation than I have with my or their family members. Not all military are angry or bitter to be deployed and I think that sometimes letters that are written like this can actually bring down their moral rather than boost it. I know it ddoes for me.
