Re: Lets start a TODDLER thread!

Hi Everyone, I'm haveing a very hard time with the potty . She does go on it right after her bath but then when I try again when she firsts wakes up and she scream NO PEE PEE. So then I will put a pull up on her and she'll pee. . I give her candy if she goes pee pee so she knows that she did something good. So I don't know what to do or try. Can anyone help Christine
I heard we have to kind of let them tell us when they are ready. My son will only willingly sit on the potty after dinner. I tried when he wakes up too and he flipped out. I kind of stopped trying in the morning

She's going on #3 in Jan. My mom said to let her pee on herself (no diaper on) but then she pee on everthing, so I didn't try that. What do u think Christine

That doesn't sound like a good idea to me. You will be cleaning pee up all the time! And, she will think its a game. I am new at the whole potty training thing, so I don't really know what to do either, but I would maybe ask the pediatrician. There has to be a way to make this more fun for them!!!

NO!! Good Lord- my mom told me to do that with my son..
There is a couple of videos/dvds that we bougt off of ebay when we started running into trouble.. "Its potty time" and "once upon a potty-for boys (or girls)" i think they both also have a book.. we only got the book for the second one cause i wasnt sure which one he would take to easier... He loves them BOTH we have had an easier time, since he now has something to "refer" to.. lol... And we do the over the top "hooray" when he goes potty.. He still has yet to poop on the potty but MOST of the time tells me when he has to pee.. You can try lookin ghtese tapes up at the library and see which one your lil one takes to before buying it or so what we did... buy both and then give it away or re-sell it on ebay!! LOL... (we are keeping it until he poops!)
HTH-- good Luck!
ETA: Both videos have really catchy songs in them too.. definately more fun!

My son will be three in March.. We have had the videos since he was about 18 mos. we started really using them right before he turned 2.. and he was geting really good, almost perfect.. and I got preggo with baby number 2 and with 24/7 morning sickness, I was occupying the potty all the time so he got used to peeing in his pull ups again!
One other thing was he had NO interest in the kids potty- he wanted to be on the BIG potty right away, so we got one of those soft plastic cushioned inserts (with handles) to put on top of the potty seat, and he was sooooo happy!
This is a great site that has a bunch of different potty inserts.. just to give you an idea..

This is the one we have.. Image Attachment(s):

Hi everyone!! Well, last night I put him down at 8:20. He slept until 7 this morning instead of 6 so I think this might be working. I'm going to try 8:00 tonight. Do you think that's too early??Maybe I'll get him to sleep until 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. If he does I owe you all a really big one!!!!
I don't remember if you said how old your sone was, but I put Jack to bed at 7:30 everynight. Not too early IMO.

Re: Lets start a TODDLER thread!
Ryan will be 3 in January and he has been potty trained with pee since July. We trained him with the over the top celebrations and then with a sticker for his chart every time he peed. Also, I did leave him naked alot of the time. Your parents may be from the stone age but it worked. That being said I would NOT recommend this from the start but once they get the hang of it a little this worked like a charm to seal the deal. A little would come out and he would immediately yell and go running for the potty.
Now poop came a little later and we had to up the reward to trains, then cars, then stickers. We had stopped with rewards a few weeks ago, but he is regressing and pooping in his pants in the past week. I thought it was because he was constipated and it hurt, but ysterday I gave him some prunes (which worked) and he still went in his pants.

Jack just turned one. But even for a two year old I think 7:30-8 is a good time. First it gives you a good chunk of the evening to relax and second, they are still so little and need a lot of sleep.
