Lamaze
Dh and I work opposite schedules and I think its going to be hard to go to lamaze. Did anyone not do lamaze? I just dont want to do it alone

We didn't do lamaze. It's kinda outdated in some ways. We took a L&D class at the hospital and it was more like a combination of Bradley and other laboring techniques.
I think for me, the class was a huge success and important because I wanted to go meds free if possible (ie: no epidural). It was a huge crazy goal of mine and I wanted to give myself the best chance of that by learning as much as possible. But for everyone I know who planned on the epidural or was open to it either way, they thought L&D classes were a total waste. The nurses in L&D at the hospital are AMAZING at coaching you and helping out! You could definitely read up on it and be in great shape too.

DH and I are taking a class at NSUH and because our schedules are crazy we are taking it on a sunday full day. They go thru a whole bunch of things.
My Friend said she rented a video from the Library on Lamaze

We look the express Childbirth class on a Saturday and they went over lots of breathing techniques. The only problem is...I feel that because it was the express class (6 hours on one day instead of 8 hours spread out through a month), we rushed through everything and I have already forgotten the breathing!!!

We are taking Lamaze at Good Sam and they offered a couple of Saturday dates to get it all done in 1 shot.

We did not take any classes and I went on to have a completely drug free delivery. You can get the same info from reading, video/articles on web sites and renting dvd's from library. To be honest I would def. be prepared with knowledge of what to expect etc., but nothing will prepare for what it's like. It is def. an "on the job training" type of situation. Practicing some breathing in your home or class when you have a 0 level of pain is WAY different than the reality of it. If you take classes I think it may help more to ease you mentally than anything else.

I personally feel lamaze is outdated and not necessary. I took an online labor and delivery class and liked it. I will also take infant cpr and first aid probably... but regarding labor and delivery, I will just do more reading on the subject but don't feel any in person classes are required.

Crashing, but I just wrote an article about different childbirth theories. I'll post it tomorrow. =)
Lamaze has changed a lot in the past several years. It used to tell women to pant and pick a focal point during contractions. Now, it's more about a natural approach to birth: wait for labor to start on it's own, move during labor, push in any comfortable position, don't separate mom and baby unless something is wrong.
I think Baby Breaths has a lamaze teacher that'll come to your house.
