Kinda embarassing......
So we have an (almost) 11 month old yellow lab. He is awesome!!!
HOWEVER - he has the worst gas imaginable!! He can clear out a room!! And not a day goes by without at least a few stink bombs that go off. Sometimes they are even loud - so loud that he scares himself. I'm sorry for TMI - it's actually a bit funny and I'm giggling like a little girl as I'm writing this. But the bigger picture is that, depending on what company we have over, it can be quite embarassing.
When we got him at 10 weeks old and were following up with the vet for all of the initial shots it was happening too, but we just kept attributing it to just being a puppy. Grant it that he still is a puppy but it hasn't gotten any better. I haven't asked the vet about it because we haven't gone to the vet for a while because he's not due for any shots or any follow ups and to be perfectly honest, I don't feel like paying an arm and a leg just to ask about bad gas.
We've changed his food 4 times since having him, thinking that the food was the issue - everything from crap food to super expensive organic food - and everything in between. No difference though. He's currenlty on Beneful which he loves!!
Does anyone have any insight about this? Is this a lab thing? A puppy thing? Is there anything we can do to help it? It's getting pretty stinky!

Shea used to do this a lot. His weren't loud though just awful smelling. He's gotten a lot better though. He's almost 18 months now so maybe it is a puppy thing? We've been feeding him Blue Buffalo so I can't even recommend that as a reliever

Re: Kinda embarassing......
I have experience in this ILs dog (who just passed a few weeks ago ) was this huge mastiff that used to have HORRIBLE gas. It was mainly when he ate dirt and leaves while he was in the yard. So I would watch your puppy to make sure he is not eating anything that would give him more gas than normal.

Have you had his stool checked for parasites?

Re: Kinda embarassing......
our cat has lethal gas and we have changed the food several times. We find its bad when she is sneaking human food and we don't realize it. She ate an entire tomato when we weren't home. her poo was red and freaked me out!
Maybe puppy is eating something?

Re: Kinda embarassing......
Well, he is a lab so labs mouth EVERYTHING and he loves being outside so I'm sure he's picking up tons of stuff out there. I guess we have to just keep a better eye on him.
He did have a parasite when he was a baby but that was easier to figure out because his stool was really loose (sorry for TMI)
I've seen this product at PetSmart that I think is supposed to help....I think it's supposed to be like Beano but for dogs. Anyone heard of this?
Thanks for everyone's insight tho!!

Re: Kinda embarassing......
We had this problem in the beginning too. I'm not a vet or expert or anything but I usually read about this problem with a few things - poor quality food, eating too fast, eating too much in one sitting, food expanding in the stomach too fast.
Google "the truth about dog food" and you can learn about what it takes to truly make good food. Mainstream food that you can buy in any grocery store is not the best you can get.
If you feed him once a day, split it up into twice. Get a bowl that forces him to eat slowly or put things in his food that makes him work around them like a big Kong or a rock. You could spread his food out on a cookie sheet or put it in a puzzle toy like a Buster Cube or a Tug-a-Jug. Check his weight - if you can't feel his ribs with light pressure running down his ribcage, cut back his food by 1/4 cup a week until you can.
After doing extensive research, we will be switching our Labs to Evo Herring and Salmon in about a month. It's expensive and not for everyone, but it's the best I can find in my price range. If you have a good price range, you could probably find a higher quality food for him.
Good luck, and I agree I like your avatar too.

Re: Kinda embarassing......
Bella has bad gas once in a while, she is fed Nutra Ultra, but when we stay in NY with my parents she will eat their dog's food (beneful) and her gas is TERRIBLE!! TMI- but her poops smell horrendous too from eating that food. I attribute it to the dog food!
