Kelly Clarkson
I would also like to add, that my cousin works for sony and did an event where she performed for a small audience. He met her and took a photo with her. She is MUCH smaller than what these photos portray.

I love her but I think she looks terrible and unhealthy. And doesn't she need stamina to get through a concert? I'm surprised she doesn't work out for that reason.
This.
I adore her but being a vocalist myself -- and believe me, not on her level hahaha, but being that I have sung and done soloing my whole life HOW -- and I say this with love -- HOW ON EARTH can she get through a song, let alone a concert??
I would be dying and I'm in shape.
She has a child. She should get healthy.
It is not about looks - she is a pretty girl at any size. It is about living your best, healthiest life.
How do you know she's not healthy though? A big girl can still be healthy. And just because she's big means she doesn't work out? I don't think that's a fair assumption.
She is young so she may be healthy right now. But no one can argue that being overweight and obese increases your chance for chronic and preventable diseases. That's a fact.
This. Why I wrote what I wrote is based on that fact and what my medical professionals tell me. And that's why I feel the way that I do. Again, I really adore her. But this is not healthy - for her height and weight, it just isn't.
I agree with the above. She is not at a healthy weight.
On this board, if a celeb is overweight/obese, no one can say anything about it being unhealthy, because we aren't doctors (you don't need to be a doctor to know that being obese increases your chances of disease. You really don't.) But people can say a thin celeb looks sick (when often they are lean/fit), and that's okay. I don't get it.

I love her! She's talented and she seems sweet. And she's comfortable in her own skin....I love her confidence and the message that sends to young girls!
Ita! She has an amazing talent and she is happy! I cannot believe how mean women are to other women. I teach my girls that it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside it's the inside that counts.

Exactly I am not understanding why we can say Lindsay Lohan or anyone else needs rehab out of true concern for her but we can't show concern for a very loved and admired overweight celebrity!?

Re: Kelly Clarkson
Ok - she's not thin, but she's not 500 lbs either ! She's probably a szie 14 / 16. I saw her in person a few weeks ago. She didn't look great, but she never does IMO. Doesn't matter, the girl can SING.
She put on an AMAZING show. Trust me, she can sing, she can breathe, she can do whatever it is she needs to do -
I'm the first to rip in on the celebrity board - But I don't discrminiate ......(and when I do b/c I have a biased LOVE for someone who can do no wrong in my head, I'll admit it)
but I don't get why you put up a pic of Melissa Mccarthy who is hilarous and adorable, but heavy .......or Rebel Wilson - and everyone comments on how cute she looks, how pretty she is, how great she looks - no one says she's overweight .........Is it b/c they're ALWAYS been that way? But Kelly or whomever else puts on the pounds and everyone is commenting about how 'unhealthy' she is ........
Even the Caitlyn Jenner thing ....... If it was a pic of Bruce, it would be perfectly fine to say "Oh God, He looks like hell, what did he do to his face, too much surgery etc etc" .........but now that she's a woman, it's not acceptable to think she's unattractive? It's accteptable to say any other woman is unattractive, wearing too much makeup, got too fat/skinny whatever .........so, why is she off limits?

She knows how to breathe the correct way. It's the most important thing if you are a professional singer. Stamina has very little to do with it.
Plus, she isn't dancing across the stage her entire show

I think this is exactly it!! When you're use to seeing someone one way and then they pack on a lot of weight and look drastically different than before, their weight gain stands out more. When an actress/celebrity has always been heavy and you only know them as overweight you don't really think much of it because they ALWAYS have looked that way. It doesn't mean you think they look any better or worse, you just don't pay as much attention to their size.
KC looks drastically different than she did and IMO, it's not mean to say she doesn't look great. She doesn't. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, everyone looks better at a healthier weight. Not rail thin, super skinny model thin but a healthy weight FOR THEM. She could sing her socks off and be as happy as a clam but just seeing pics of her, it's hard to NOT notice her weight gain and think she looks worse.
I don't think anyone was being mean on this thread and it's getting so old around here when people rally to a PICTURE'S defense and sing rainbows and light about how everyone is beautiful and wonderful. Blah. Blah. Blah. It's such silliness, everyone is entitled to their opinions. Same crap on this board, different celebrity picture.

You're making a basis based on a photo, or the internet. You also made a comment about how can she sing since she's SO unhealthy and you who in your own words deem to be healthier than her can't sing like she can so how can she possibly. So, my opinion is, your opinion is moot. You can't say "I'm healthier than her" but then in the next sentence say that you don't understand how she can manage singing the way she does. The statements conflict IMO. She's either able to sing regardless of her size and health or she's not. I'm sorry if this is confusing, but you've perplexed me. Also, I believe she is a 12/14 which is the standard size of the American woman if I remember correctly. She might not be as fit and toned as she wants to be but she's happy, seems healthy and able to keep up with her lifestyle UNLIKE some of those skinny people that get posted who end up needing to take leave because of exhaustion.

This term: "fat shaming" needs to go away. Along with "slut shaming", "skinny shaming", "ugly shaming" and all of the other catchy little "shaming" phrases floating around the internet.
I can't stand all of these corny terms we've come up nowadays in our society. It's getting ridiculous.

So, you think making someone feel bad about their body (whether online or IRL), is OK? Making blanket judgments and saying someone who you do not know is unhealthy, lacking stamina, etc., is nice?
ETA: To people who are thin, do YOU like it when people tell you to go eat a hamburger? Probably not.

No. I think the need to label anything with some trendy, new phrase is dumb.
Saying she's overweight is not "shaming" her, it's stating a fact.

Fat shaming is not something trendy, its a real problem in our society.
People who are overweight have a MUCH harder time than those who are not, and it starts with things like this - thinking that its ok and fun to judge and comment on someone you don't even know. You may think its harmless but its not.

Re: Kelly Clarkson
This just popped up on my news feed
Lauren Conrad Officially Bans Body-Shaming Terms from Her Website Lauren Conrad is taking a stand against body shaming — and we couldn’t be more on board.
The fashion designer and Laguna Beach alum took to her site yesterday to announce she would be making some big changes. With swimsuit season fast approaching, Conrad’s site is prepping to post a number of fitness-related articles in the coming days. Along with fashion, food, and beauty features, the website runs a Bikini Boot Camp series in which Conrad and her team encourage readers to get in shape. However, they’ve decided to do things differently this year. Lauren writes:
“When we’ve talked about getting in shape in the past, words like ‘skinny,’ ‘slim,’ and ‘thin’ have often come up. Starting this month, we’ll be banning any body shaming terms from the site, and replacing them with words like ‘fit’ ‘toned,’ and “healthy.'”
Amen, LC!
Conrad further explains, “Every body is created differently — and healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes.”
As moms and women, we constantly feel the pressure to “bounce back” after baby, to erase all signs of the miracle we created from our bodies as fast as humanly possible, and look our best at all times — whether it’s feasible or not. But our health shouldn’t be about bikinis and unattainable goals, it should be about looking and feeling our best so that we’re in our children’s lives for as long as possible, enjoying every moment we can of it.
It’s time we reclaimed the narrative and said no to “skinny” and yes to “fit” once and for all.

The TERM "fat shaming" is trendy right now. Commenting on someone's appearance is nothing new in society, the need to attach some silly, trendy label to it however, is. THAT was my point, NOT that making fun of people is okay.

Why do you need to make it a negative context? Why do women need to tear other women down?
