By saving.
After all the bills are paid for, daycare is paid for, groceries are bought... stuff away some money to buy what you really want. And if an LV bag is what you really want, you'll just have to save until you have the cash to spend.
The bags will be extinct by then!

isn't it muffin top? lmao
thats it.. Muffin..
What I meant is .. if you like a shirt from G&G or from Cavalli who cares.. its about how it looks you know? if you have muffin top and your shirt is 300 bucks does it matter? Ew no....
oh OK...I was askared for a minute
and you are absolutely right. it doesn't matter how much money you spend or who's name is on your butt...fat skinny or in between...you need clothes that flatter you, and you need to rock whatcha mama gave ya!
Ain't that the truff!!!!
Thanks for sharing ladies and not getting offended - what everyone said made sense - I am not sure I ever want one really, but when I see one once ina while and think - hmmm, thats cute - then I see the price and I'm like YOWZERS....

or using an eluxury gift card and paying the difference

I don't have an LV bag. But if I wanted one that bad, I'd save the money I allow myself per month for clothes/shoes/etc until I had enough to get it.

Re: Just curious.. how is anyone able to afford
to answer the OP, ithink some people's priorities abiut $$ are screwed up. I mean IRL, as i don't "know" anyone on here or their financial situation. but i've worked with girls who need to spend over $500 on an LV or Burberry bag.
I'd rather pay my mortgage and clothe my child then have an LV bag.

some people just have a lot of money to spend; others are waist high in debt.
i bought an LV wallet for myself when i finished nursing school, and passed my boards. it was a one time thing.
i haven't bought anything extravagant for myself since my DS was born. it's just not in the budget like it used to be.

I don't think that because I spend $$ on a bag it means my priorities are "screwed up".
My priorities are perfectly in order and I am also fortunate enough that I can afford a nice bag here and there.
My bags or anything else I buy are a fun splurge for me. They don't determine who I am - my family doesn't suffer or not eat, my daughter always has nice new clothes, my mortgage gets paid on time every month, and I am still saving for my child and my future - so please...enlighten me, how are my priorities "screwed up"?

I agree - who is anyone to judge what others spend on anything?
the only time I might judge is if a person bought a $1K bag and then complained about being in debt

Did I say you specifically? No, I was speaking in generalities. There are people that have money issues. That was my point.

No - you didn't speak specifically about me, I realize that. BUT you didn't say a word about people with money issues either....so I am only to assume you are speaking about people who buy expensive bags, and since I am one of them I am speaking up.

Re: Just curious.. how is anyone able to afford
honestly I dont know. I have read the explanations and I still dont get it. We have so many expenses with the house and even though our salary covers things- I still would never spend that kind of money on the bag, I would be so afraid of damaging the bag and i would feel committed to wearing it for the rest of my life. I rather spend the money on my house but thats just me.

I appreciate that. I did say that I worked with woman that would rather have the bag, car or whatever, then save. My point was there are people that live hand to mouth, but would still rather have the bag then pay the cc bill.

THank you for clarifying because truthfully that is not the only way your post could read.
Regardless, I am personally done getting involved in the bag conversations. Not because I buy expensive bags - or feel defensive, but because its old already. This is the 1000th time this week its been discussed and I feel like there are just a lot of judgements all around (some outspoken and some implied). And I think it is unfair - because NO ONE know what is going on behind closed doors in someones household and to be honest - it's really nobodys business either.
It's already been stated that people don't approve of people buying them that might not be able to afford them, people dont like when they can afford them but still think they are putting up a front buy wearing them because its "pretentious", now it's EVEN if you can afford it - why would you??!
Here is the answer...because everyone is different.
Isn't that what makes the world go around?

Re: Just curious.. how is anyone able to afford
I normally stay out of these conversations b/c of the way they play out. some woman can't conceive spending that much on a purse. while others see the purchase as a "treat" for themselves.
I don't care who spends what on whatever. In my case, I have any crazy expensive bags, nor do I plan on buying any in the future.

Re: Just curious.. how is anyone able to afford
I love bags, clothes and shoes. I'll spend money for a nice pair of shoes or a classic outfit (wont spend money on trendy stuff, that I get at target)..
but I would never spend hundreds of dollars dying my hair or highlights monthly, or expensive makeup (cover girl works just fine) or lease a car (i think its a waste of money) - some people splurge on different things. no one is right or wrong.
I see people post on here how they cant afford a house, yet they are going on european vacations and buying luxury cars. Who am I to judge? If that is what makes them happy in this short life, so be it.

Re: Just curious.. how is anyone able to afford
The thing is this board is a cross-section of all economic backgrounds. I assume there are probably household incomes from about 50K to over 500K - big range. There are people who make SIGNIFICANTLY more money than others. SO they can afford the bags because they already have a nice house, can save, pay for all their necessities and fixed costs, give their children luxuries and still buy a bag.
Its like saying how do people afford a range rover? simple. They have more money.
I am sure there are people who live above their means, hand to mouth etc. But for better or worse their are many people just MAKE more so they HAVE more.

Re: Just curious.. how is anyone able to afford
In our home I work pt and what I make is all spending money. DH makes enough to cover all bills and any extra's that are needed. I havent purchased a bag or sunglasses yet, but I will for this year but most of my money I deposit into my DD's savings account each week. I think it just depends on each persons individual income and how they spend their money.

I'm with you. I don't have one. In fact, I'm not into bags at all... I put my money elsewhere, into my other obsessions.
Same here. I can't get into bags, so even if I did have the money to spend on them I wouldn't. Currently all our $ is going into our house.

Re: Just curious.. how is anyone able to afford
Just to clarify - I am not judging - I would love to have the money to go splurge on a bag - if I had it, I would so do it its not even funny..... I really wanted to know "How?"
Honestly, what I was really hoping for was someone saying, "Are you kidding? I get them really cheap at....." and not to get too much farther from there!
