It's official... my 20 month old is throwing tantrums

Xavier has started sitting on the floor and laying down when he doesn't want to do something. The other day he did this while at the park because he didn't want to leave. DH has a good way of distracting him by putting him upside down and playing around. I don't know what to do to divert DS' actions. I know he is starting to act out due to DS2.

When it's time to brush his teeth at night, he does the same as above or just whines because he doesn't want me to brush his teeth but he will let DH with no problem. Chat Icon Not only is it a battle for me to go to the bathroom but to brush his teeth is another issue. We never had this problem before.

I was thinking of starting a sticker reward thing. Is this a good time to start it? He understands everything so I can see him having fun with this but not sure if there is anything else I can try. Time outs only work when we sit with him. It was such a joke in our house when we tried it. Chat Icon He is obsessed with the paci. I thought of having him go to bed without it if he refuses to brush his teeth. Or take away his lovey as much as I don't want to and know he will be miserable without it. ahhh I'm such a wimp. But someone in my household has to be the bad cop or these boys will destroy us.

Re: It's official... my 20 month old is throwing tantrums

it's his way of getting YOUR attention.. you just had a baby so now he is acting like a baby to get your attention and sort of being "mean" to you to get back at you.. fun, isn't it? lol

When he throws himself on the floor to have a tantrum, WALK AWAY.. don't allow that behavior and have him think he can do that.. also, if you're brushing his teeth, that's it, brush them regardless of whether he gives you a fight or not.. he needs to understand that you're the boss and that he can't be one way towards you and then nice and listen to daddy..

Hang in there.. it does get better.. sort of lol Chat Icon

Chat Icon I walk away when we are at home. But what to do when we are out in public? The best part is either he thinks it is the funniest thing or he starts to fake cry and whine. Ugh that whining drives me up a wall. I have no patience for it.Chat Icon

I do the same in public! I've gotten some eyerolls but I DO NOT CARE.. the second I turn around and start to walk away, they would get right back up and run after me! lol
