It was like a sick joke last night
Ughhhhhhhhhhh - where to begin? Bear with me....
I twisted my back the wrong way yesterday afternoon, so I was having that twinge-y pain every time I moved a certain way. Couple that with a 26-pound toddler that wants to be held all the time and it's a TON of fun. I went up to bed to read for a while at like 8pm - DH had just given James his bottle and put him to bed.
James was sleeping soooooooooooo soundly - like not even moving except for the occasional twitch of the foot. DH came up to bed at 10:30 - we talked for quite a while and lamented the fact that we had to go to work after having the past week off - neither of us could sleep. At 12:15, he gets up to go to the bathroom. He stepped on one of the creaky floorboards outside of the bathroom (our house is ancient ) and James woke up SCREAMING. We let him cry for about 15 minutes and then DH went in to settle him down. He falls asleep the second DH picked him up. Upon being put back in his crib, starts screaming again. Lather, rinse, repeat until about 2:45 when he FINALLY fell asleep ( ) At 3:10, DH gets up (agian) and AGAIN steps on the same damn floorboard. James wakes up screaming again. This time, he REFUSED to settle, no matter what we did - it's was now 4:20 and we just said "F" it, let's just bring him into bed. This was the first time in almost 16 months we brought him into bed. He finally stops tossing and turning and trying to talk to us and play with us and look for the dog under the covers ( ) and fell asleep at 5:05. My alarm went off at 6 to get up for the day. So yeah - one hour of sleep for me.
There is a question in all of this rambling, though.... if you have a light sleeper, how do you not feel like a prisoner in your own house? DH swears he's sleeping down in the living room tonight.
Please send us some solid-sleep vibes for tonight!!!!
ETA - he does have a sound machine that we use every night and for naps - as well as the damn Twilight Turtle!

WHITE NOISE MACHINE!!!!!!!! immediately!
DD sleeps in our LIVING ROOM!!!!!!
In the summer we use a fan, in the winter we have the humidifier and in between I have the sleep sounds giraffe on the highest setting.
We can watch TV, walk back and forth - the dog is constantly jumping off the bed and she is fine!

Ugggggg Sooo sorry!! Sounds like a horrible night. Do you have a noise machine in his room. John's Fan drowns out any outside noises!! I have a squeaky floor too right outside his room. If that doesn't work... put a HUGE GLOW IN THE DARK X on that floorboard so DH steps OVER IT!!

Do you have a sound machine? My DS is a very light sleeper too. He must wake up at least 3x a night when he occasionally sleeps at my parents without the sound machine. Idk if its too late to introduce it if you dont have one, but if you do, make it louder!

Re: It was like a sick joke last night
OMG, this reminds me of when we were away over the summer and the four of us were sleeping in one room. Jack had just fallen back to sleep after waking up and DH had to get up to pee (like always ) and I literally wouldn't let him get up. I was trying to explain that I just got Jack back down and he would wake up if he heard DH. He finally got up because apparently he was going to pee the bed (he has the bladder of a 2 year old boy) and he did wake Jack up.
The next day he was telling my entire family that I'm such a witch because I wouldn't let him pee in the middle of the night
Do you have a sound machine? Or, just tell him not to step on the creaky floorboard
ETA: Just saw that you have a sound machine. How about running a cool mist humidifier - or a fan?

Re: It was like a sick joke last night
So sorry about your night- sounds awful!!
As far as having a light sleeper... do you use white noise at all? We have used it since the very beginning and it blocks out EVERYTHING!! On new years eve, he went to bed around 10 and at midnight, my husband, BIL, and his gf were downstairs yelling "Happy New Year!!" and blowing noisemakers- BIL even had one of those airhorn things- and he didn't even flinch (I was watching like a hawk on the monitor)! We have 2 big dogs too, one of whom will bark if a fly lands on a leaf 3 blocks over, and the white noise blocks all of that out too. I definitely recommend it!
ETS: When I started writing that, no one had responded yet. Now I see a million other posters recommend the same thing- and u already have it! I agree with Tilde- turn it up as loud as it goes!

Re: It was like a sick joke last night
We must live in the same house. Right outside DS's room is the creakiest floor board I ever heard. I tell hubby to avoid the area when DS is sleeping. So of course as soon as DS goes to bed, hubby has to be all over it!!! If you come up with a way to combat the noise, please let me know!!!
