Is your infant getting the flu shot?

My DD has her 6 month check up next week. Is the flu shot part of the vaccines this time? Is everyone getting the flu shot for their infant? Do we have to give it to them? I'm torn on what to do.

you don't have to give them any vaccine and the flu one is not a mandatory one by the school with that said my son just got the second flu shot this week. the first time them getting it is 2 shots. my DD has been getting it since she been a baby also.

Last year dd was 6 months at the end of December. I chose not to give it to her them. She was barely old enough and they need two shots. The second shot would have been the end of January. I felt we would have been unprotected through most of flu season anyway.

This year at 16 months dd got it.

Like pp said, it's not mandatory, but DD is 10 months and is getting it tomorrow. DD1 is in preschool and brings home germs. Even though she is getting shot, too, I won't risk the baby getting the flu.

DD is 8 months and we decided not to give it to her at her 6m appointment.

Last winter, DH had gotten the flu shot and I did not (I was pg). We were both in the hospital for 5 days while i was being induced. He caught the flu, DD was born and she and I were perfectly healthy and remained that way.

We got it starting at 1 year and then every year since then, but he was born in October so it wasn't an option before 1. I would talk to your ped and go by their recommendation.

I gave it to DD as soon as she was old enough at 6 months. She was in daycare and the flu is very serious in infants.

DD didn't get it at 6 months. At that age they need two shots. In addition I was told a child isn't totally protected until 30 days after fully vaccinated. In that case she wouldn't have been fully protected until the end of April or early May. At that point flu season was over. I plan to have her get it at her 15 month appointment this weekend.

If she was 6 months in Sepember-December I probably would have done it.

DD got it right at 6 months which was in october and has gotten it every year since then. When she was 5 months her ped gave me the shot bc she wasn't old enough yet and they feel strongly about protecting infants from the flu.

Ds is 7 months and got the first half and will get the second in the beginning of December

My DS has had the flu shot every year. He's in daycare so he's sick enough with colds I don't want to risk the flu.

My girls were 6 mo in April so basically after flu season. They got it for the 1st time at 1 year in 2 doses. They weren't in day care so I wouldn't have given at 6 mo. I would have considered it if they were.

In CT, it's required for kids in daycare. Even if it wasn't required, I always give my kids the flu shot or mist. They're in daycare and exposed to a lot of illnesses. I want to protect them as much as possible.

My daughter is in daycare. We do not do the flu shot. If you choose to get one please try and get a mercury free one. You have have to call around to find it.

I will talk to my ped next week and go from there. It is good to go in with some pre-knowledge so I appreciate all the info and opinions! Thanks Girls!

Last year my son was 6 months old and I got it because he was in day care. I actually think that my day care requires that it be done so I guess I did not have much of a choice!

DS just turned 6 months, but could not get it at his well visit because of some of the other shots he was getting. He is getting his first flu shot next Monday.

DS just turned 6-months and had his immunizations. We added the flu shot for one main reason:

1. He has an older sister in school who has been bringing home every bug in the world. She also got the shot.

Just bear in mind that if you do decide to give him the shot, it will be in 2 doses 1 month apart, so we have to go back in December for the final flu dosage.

My dd is 2 i have never given her the flu shot.
She was not in daycare.
Or have older siblings. .
This year im on the fence because the school states it is mandatory ubkess theres a reason for exemption...
