Is this bathroom location really weird?
In the house we are looking at there are two bathrooms: 1. In the hallway (for everyone) 2. One in the master bedroom
The bathrooms are located right next door to each other / in other words they share a wall (must be due to pipes and so on) - I assume thats common.
Now due to bad feng shui, the bathroom in the master was closed off (the door was removed and the wall closed) and they added the entrance to the hallway instead.
So now the two bathroom entrances are next door to each other.
I think thats weird - its like a restaurant. bathroom 1 is occupied, let me walk 1 foot over and open bathroom 2.
My wife thinks its uncommon but not a big deal and that I am overly sensitive.
Thoughts?

Re: Is this bathroom location really weird?
I don't find it weird for guests or anything but I'd be annoyed that I couldn't access my master bathroom from my master bedroom. Bad feng shui? Please...
I'd want that access re-opened from the bedroom if I were buying that house. ESPECIALLY for showering etc.

very weird. if you buy the house, can't you just put back the door where it originally was to make it a true master bath?

this is what i would look into doing - and closing off the entrance to the hallway.

That would annoy me. My master bath is mine. Is it an easy fix or would you need to gut the bathroom to reconfigure it?

Weird, yes, but not a dealbreaker. I would just put the door back into the master bedroom.

Agree! In the grand scheme of things, not the worst problem to have.

Re: Is this bathroom location really weird?
I think it's a little weird if the only access to each is side by side, I agree with your DW.........looks odd. My master bath and hallway bath share a wall BUT you can only get into the master bath through my bedroom.
Now, that being said, I wouldn't let it hinder me from buying a house I otherwise liked. Simply close off the hallway entrance (super easy to do) and re-open the master bedroom entrance. Simple fix and makes more sense for the flow of the house.

Is this bathroom location really weird?
well...Im a believer in feng shui also. Well not a big believer but I;m a "no harm in following it, just in case"
There are 2 big major rules: 1. There can't be a staircase that leads directly out the front door 2. In the bedroom, the bed cannot be in the path of a door
so having the bathroom door be pointed right at the bed is a no no.

What happens to you if any of these 2 things occur in your home?

Is this bathroom location really weird?
not sure about center colonials, but my friend's split ranch has the stair case perpendicular to the front entrance.
Basically the thought process is (my understanding of it, I'm not too familiar with it) 1. If the staircase leads directly out (in other words you drop a ball down the stairs it bounces right out the door) - something like your money flows right out. according to google: "Having a front door open immediately to a stairway is going in the direction of financial failure, "
2. bed in a doorway - when you are sleeping your body is weaker/recuperating - so with a door, energy is constantly coming in and hitting your body so your health will suffer. I guess it is like sleeping next to an open window in the cold - you're constantly being bombarded with cold and it could lower your immune system

Re: Is this bathroom location really weird?
Personally, I think it's ridiculous. Maybe 1000 years ago when voodoo and hexes were all the rage but come on....

Some of the earliest foundations of feng shui were for rice patty farmers. It helped them figure out where and how to lay out their patties in relation to the wind, sun, mountains, etc.

That is awesome for them. Back in the day, in a rice pattie, etc.
But to say my bed can't face a door or my stairs can't face a door- I don't see the point.

Re: Is this bathroom location really weird?
My cousin's house has this. It's a strange set up but I guess you work with it if you love your house. I'd put the door back where it "belongs" and have a dedicated master bath.

So THAT's why we're poor!
I kinda wish I could post a pic of my front door/stairs situation. You'd sh!t your pants.
Anyway, I think the bathrooms are weird. I'd close off the hall entrance and open up the bedroom entrance.
