Is there a reason?

They only do 2 betas and then you wait for 2 weeks for a sono? I have to be honest, I'm starting to get a little nervous. I have no idea if I am progressing, or if something is going wrong.

I guess I am so used to being tested more often - given my history of ectopics that this waiting between the 2nd beta and the sono is killer. It's another 2ww.

Does anyone's RE require additional betas? Just curious...Chat Icon

Maybe it an insurance thing?

Re: Is there a reason?

My RE does a 2nd beta 2 days after the first to make sure it rises. They want to see it rise by at least 60%. They then have you come in a week after the 2nd beta for bloodwork and an u/s to check for the gestational sac and yolk sac. Then bloodwork and u/s every week until they release you back to your OB, usually at 8 weeks.

Re: Is there a reason?

I had 3 betas....14DPO, then 2 days later 16DPO then at 21DPO....after that I had my first sono at 5w2d (to see the sac & fetal pole), then at 6weeks to hear the hearbeat, then last at 8weeks before being released from RE...

I was at Cornell and that is their standard protocol with a pregnancy...I guess every RE is different....

ETA: with my first pregnancy I was in beta hell and had about 15 betas in a 3week period (no joke)...so don't worry...since the two were fine there is no need for more...

Re: Is there a reason?

It's sort of standard protocol.
I don't think they overdo it on the beta's for a couple reasons...if the beta numbers don't double exactly right you may stress over it...doing the sono too soon isn't going to show anything and you may stress over it.

Basically, if something bad is going to happen, it's going to happen...no amount of checking stuff this early on is going to make a difference.

Just try to take it easy and get through the 2 weeks...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is there a reason?

I agree...although my betas have been good and I had a sono at 5w3d waiting until next Monday for the next sono is driving me crazy. Everytime I go to the bathroom, I check for blood (sorry TMI) but I can't relax at all.

I swear too much information is worse sometimes.
