Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

These are comments from Socialite Life....not having a baby and not knowing much about this stuff....is this a big issue? At what age is a bottle bad? What do you guys think?

Sara says:

Suri should be on sippy cups right now, not bottles. Isn't she over two years old? My daughter knew how to use a straw at that point. Xenu nectar looks suspiciously like milk!

Tricky says:

There is no reason that a 2 year old should be drinking from a bottle. She should be holding and drinking from a child-size cup now. Bottles at this point can screw up her teeth and if they put her to bed with it, a nasty case of bottle rot. (rotted front teeth).

Another reason to think "EWWWWWW" when you see these people...

TotalSocialite says:

Tricky is absolutely right, the bottle at this age can really creat the need for braces in the future because of bucked teeth. Also, bottle rot can happen even when not sleeping. If she is drinking that all the time then the flouride on her teeth is being constantly washed away which will cause tooth decay. And, I read somewhere about a year ago that she is drinking some scientology milk concoction. It's the toddler version of Purple Kool-Aid. LOL

Green Is Good says:

Suri looks really upset and scared in these photos. She never smiles. Look how she covering her ears. Poor lil' bot.

Why wouldn't Katie just leave the kid with the Nanny? A 3 year-old doesn't belong at a Broadway show.

Sam says:

Carrying a bottle around all of the time must be a mother's attempt at comforting her daughter, but Green is Good is right - the little one should be left at home for late night events! Besides, bringing at bottle everywhere also creates bad eating habits along with the bad teeth. Poor baby!

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

Who the hell is anyone to say anything about a kid with a bottle? What the hell do we know about her situation? If my kid still had a bottle at her age, I would be livid if ANYONE had anything to say about it. It's no one's business.
ETA: Sippy cups are just as bad for a kid's speech and teeth as a bottle.

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

Most docs want them off prior to age of two.
or at least, recommended.

So I guess seeing that is just another reason to give eveyone something to talk about..esp about a celebrity.

Shes the parent and what she does is up to her.

Not all my agree but hey, such is life.

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

Different things work for different parents. All I know is my pediatrician wanted my kids off of bottles by the time they were 12 months. Bottles are worse for the teeth than cups.

Just curious but why is that whenever someone bashes a celebrity's kid so many of you take it so personally?Chat Icon

Who took it personally? The three of us that responded? We were just stating our opinions as to why some people make a big deal about the sippy cup. I'm lost... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

My kids were all off bottles by a year or so but honestly, I don't see the big deal. Why does there have to be so much judgement about Suri and her bottle? As a mother, I honestly don't get it. I saw a child recently at the park, I will guess he was closer to 3 and he had a bottle and I noticed it bc it is unusual but I didn't for a single sec think "How could that boy still be on a bottle?" I know the struggles of parenthood... As a parent, most of us do the best we can. No one is perfect, nor is any child perfect - and just bc a parent or society tries to get a child to conform, they aren't always going for it and you learn to pick your battles. How do we know what battles Katie has won? Not all of her parenting is out there for the paparazzi to photograph and for people to judge. Some places my kids were ahead, some places behind....it all generally works itself out. At the risk of sounding like my Mother I'm going to guess that Suri is not going to be walking down the aisle drinking a bottle.

ETA: And who the heck cares if Suri is at a Broadway show? Unless she's screaming or kicking my seat the entire time - I don't care. And believe me, I've witnessed worse behavior from full grown adults - I bet Suri at least turns her cell phone off LOL

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

i'm not a mom yet, but i would assume that the bottle is partially a comfort thing...

just think, if you were 2 and everywhere you went there were photogs and paparazzi following you and your mom around, with lightbulbs flashing and people shouting questions... maybe the bottle makes her feel better? who knows?

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

I think she is too old for a bottle but thats their choice. When I have kids it will be my choice to try to ween them off after 1 like the majority of people do in my family.

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

I weaned my son off bottles when he was 12-13 months old.

Whatever works for them is fine, but it makes it alot harder to wean them later on as they get attached to it.

That's their burden not mine. I don't have to deal with the crying & tantrums over it. She does seem to carry it around a lot, which makes me think the kid is hardly ever without it. You wouldn't want her to fill up on milk & not eat as it causes anemia.

The other issue is the kid is followed around by paparazzi & photographed. If she's using the bottle for comfort, I could see them not wanting to take it away from her.

I do hate seeing older kids with bottles.

ITA - my 4 yrd old cousin is still on a bottle and it seems like that bottle is going to be impossible to take away now.

Just to clarify, I'm not bashing anyone's kid....I don't know what is the right answer or even IF there is one. As someone thinking about TTC in the next year or so, I'm just curious as to what others think.
That said, I think anytime the "right" or "wrong" thing to do with kids comes up, celebs or not, some people take it personally if it differs from what they do. I can understand that; it hits close to home for some.

Honestly, I don't think it's anyone's damn business how someone else raises his or her children.

Soon, there will be legislation about this too!

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

Seriously, why are there these RULES? I was panicking when neither of my sons would take a sippy cup at 12-13 months. I was sure I had to sit and let them cry and cry until they wanted it. I did it twice and both times the boys got their bottle back. They were just not ready. Finally at 19 months I got them off the bottle, but it was a struggle. But the week it happened they were ready for it. That morning they both took it with no temper tantrum or anything.

With all this being said, I just believe something like this all i have to say is what the heck is the big deal? She's not feeding the kids drugs.....all kids are different why do each of them have to follow a time deadline.

If mothers would stop judging other mothers life would be so much better!

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

Every single time I see a pic with Suri with a bottle, I think to myself "holy cow, get that kid off the bottle already!!" I admit it.

I certainly can understand the need for Suri to have some kind of safe object to cuddle with as she's being hounded by jerky paparazzos constantly, but how about a teddy bear or a blankie? As a mom, I think having a bottle constantly in her hands, and always chewing on the nipple (as she seems to be doing) is a bad habit that will be very tough to break. Bad for the teeth, as others have noted. My two-year old can drink out of a glass.

It also bugs me when older kids have pacifiers. Same concept sort of.

But all in all, it's certainly not the end of the world. She's seems to have two very loving (if a bit odd and unfashionable) parents who seem to deal well with the media mayhem surrounding them. That's what's important. And what a cutie she is.

ETA: That comment about Suri at a broadway show is a bit odd to me. Weren't they at The Little Mermaid of something like that?? I'd love to take my DD to see that!! She'd never sit through it at this age though. I think it's nice that Katie is exposing her daughter to the theater.

Re: Is Suri's bottle a big deal?

What does anyone else care that Suri Cruise has a bottle? Some of those comments are crazy. I would think having a bottle after two years old is the least of their worries. Try worrying about all the photogs and stories they write about her because people like ones commenting above (from socialite life) love to gawk and talk poop and feed into it.

My son is almost two and still has a bottle. I don't see anything wrong with it. He's a baby.

OK...maybe I shouldn't have asked. I am (maybe WAS) curious about the bottle situation. I guess the answer is...it totally depends on the parent, child and situation.

I agree. Every time I see the topic "Katie and Suri" I just know someone is going to say "Why does Katie still have a bottle".
Obviously Katie isn't getting the memo from LIF to take her off the bottle so give it a rest. Who cares!

Maybe because I'm a mom, too, and let's face it, if people are judging celebrity moms, I'm sure you're looking at me and doing the same thing. That's annoying to me. So yes, I take it personally.
