Is it too early to start calling daycares?

So it's mid-February and I'm 13 weeks.

If all things go well, I should be heading back to work after my maternity leave by mid-November.

Is it too soon to call daycares to see about pricing, availability and wait-lists?

Someone recommended a great place very close to my home, but suggested I call early. Is 9 months away too soon to inquire about?

I don't think it's ever too early. I started when I was about 21 weeks. Looking to put DC in daycare in Sept and people are already signing up. I already know one daycare that's full in Sept.
I started at 21 weeks and went to about 5 or 6 daycares b4 making my decision.

It's not to early. I would also do it sooner than later because you will likely feel better now than later in the pg when you will be bigger.

It's never too early. I put a deposit down yesterday at 25 weeks (due June 5th) and they are taking registration for end of August! I got there just in time!!!

I've been doing daycare research for awhile and I actually put us on a waiting list today. I'm 10 weeks and the baby will probably start daycare Nov. 9.

No - It's not too early. Apparently they are already starting to fill up. The places had more filled than available.

GL - and word of warning - be sitting down when you ask for price quotes....Chat Icon

It's never too early. Our center had us on the waiting list for about 1 year.

I did hear this morning at DS's daycare that they have more openings now, though because of the current economy and the fact that some parents have lost jobs. Chat Icon

I am 13 weeks myself & I just started to research them today. Unfortunately I am only on leave for 6-8 weeks, so the baby will be going to daycare in mid October.

Re: Is it too early to start calling daycares?

Definitely not too early. I called in October 2007 for July 2008 and was told by 2 places that there were waiting lists for the infant rooms through November 2008. Chat Icon You wouldn't even know you were pregnant!

Start calling at least to find out if they have room - you may be able to knock a bunch off your list right away.
