Is it just me..................
...................or do you find people so damn unprofessional?? I literally cannot understand some of the people on LI who offer services such as landscaping, home repair, etc and just don't have the decency to return calls, follow up, speak kindly, etc. I didn't realize that everyone who offers a service is so independently wealthy and has just SO much business that they can't be bothered with you. It's disgraceful.
I am tired of dealing with these types, they just pi$$ me off to no end. It doesn't take that much effort to be kind and professional. I mean after all, aren't they trying to RUN A BUSINESS and MAKE MONEY?? It's a wonder some stay in business! I'm fed up

Is it just me..................
Feel the exact same way. It baffles me. It goes beyond these typical "blue collar" jobs too. Unless your dealing with a corporation that embeds it into their culture or just a "nice" person, don't expect any service.

omg..I feel the same way. I just had to call Xerox for more toner for our copy machine at work and the woman on the other line was miserable. I said good morning thank and please.. She was just MEH! Like she hated her job and didn't want to be bothered talking to me. Not friendly at all.

I have a story about this that burns me.
We have a vinyl fence that we got installed years ago.
Over the years one panel has sunk a bit and our gate doesn't swing right on the other side due to a patio we installed afterwards.
A few years back we were looking to get it repaired.
The original company was no longer around so we called a few well known fence companies to come take a look.
The first guy came, gave an estimate, then when we called him to do the work, he never called back. Couldn't reach him at all.
Ok fine- flake.
We call a second company- he comes down, gives an estimate, we tell him the story of the first guy ghosting us, he says- yeah that is so unprofessional, I would never do that to you.
We call him to schedule the work ,we play phone tag, he tells us he is busy that month, we say, no problem, next month is fine, and BAM he ghosts us too.
After telling us straight out how unprofessional the first guy was!
I can understand that it was a small job, and they need to focus their crews on the bigger jobs and installs that make them more money, i get it. But TELL us that. Tell us you are too busy. Tell us we have to wait until the slower season. It's fine. I wouldn't have minded.
But don't ghost us.

Oh and then there was the time I called to cancel my Petro contract because we don't buy a lot of oil (we heat our home with a pellet stove) and they wanted to charge us $450 a YEAR for the service contract that our neighbor was getting for $100 a year! I knew they were charging us more because we didn't buy enough oil. Not to mention their price per gallon was way more than the COD prices . So for the amount of oil we bought it paid for us to just go COD and take our chances without having a service contract. For the price of their service contract I could have called a plumber at 3 am anyway.
So I call to cancel- and they transfer me to some "customer retention" witch who's idea of how to retain a customer was to belittle them and was so nasty to me and basically told me I was stupid for cancelling and good luck and all those COD guys are "getting arrested"  and don't I listen to the news.
I kept it polite, I kept saying, I just want to cancel, thank you.
She got nastier and nastier and finally I said- Please stop harrasing me, you aren't making me want to stay with you, please CANCEL
And she goes FINE YOU ARE CANCELLED!
And hangs up
I blew up their FB page with the incident and some manager called me back and said they pulled the tapes of my call and yes she was wrong and would be "re trained"
I told him that if I ever spoke to a customer that way in my job I'd be fired on the spot.
Not a great way to "retain" your customers!

That's what I hate the most, it's like nobody wants to be bothered with the little jobs but they don't understand that if you act like a $hit, when the big jobs do come up I won't even consider them. EVERY bit of business should be appreciated and every customer should be treated with professionalism whether it's a $400 job or a $4000 job. I just don't get this flippant attitude where you're only worth their time if you're spending thousands. Not everyone needs a big, expensive job done. So many rude a$$holes out there, I would never conduct myself or my business the way some of these people do.

My last landscaper decided to stop his business without any warning. Just didn't show up one week, said nothing, ignored emails, and then finally was like..........."Oh yea, I'm not doing lawns anymore." Thanks for the heads up moron.
Now I just asked my current landscaper to go to bi-weekly cuttings (which I did every summer with my last landscaper since the lawn barely grows this time of year) and after ignoring me for a day he finally responds to a second text and says, "That doesn't work for me. You can go find someone else". That's it. What kind of professionalism is that?!?!? Literally doesn't value my business at all. Meanwhile, I've yet to pay him for this month.............you think he'd be a little kinder and more professional to ensure he gets paid. WTF?
Literally no social grace or professionalism. It's ridiculous.

Story of my life! I could go on and on about the companies that do this to me. My entire family thinks I'm lazy and cheap for not getting things fixed. They say "just call someone to fix it". Like oh ok, if only it was that easy! I've had a broken gate, closet door, sink, etc. forever! I've learned to live with them because no company wants to do small repairs. Even local handymen don't call back (or even show up for the estimate) after hearing it's a small job.
Every once in a while I spend an entire day looking for people to fix these things and no one calls back! Not to mention if I actually get an estimate scheduled, I wait around and they don't show up. 
The one job I have called at least 9 companies (small and large) and not one of them would even come out for an estimate. It's insanity!

Totally agree. Lately one qualification to be hired for a job is that you are come on time (i.e. don't call me half an hour after the scheduled time and say you are on your way now) and that they return phone calls somewhat timely as well. So hard to find a reliable contractor, landscaper (they seem to be the worst right now), etc. I do have a great exterminator that is extremely punctual and reliable.

It's horrible
I guess there must be. I guess no one customer matters all that much. The funny thing is, they did do a nice job and I would've recommended them BUUUUUUUT not now with their lack of professionalism. Meanwhile, they are begging for your business when summer ends and they need fall clean-ups to survive. I know who I will NOT be calling.

I LOVE my plumber and the guy who just did our bathroom tiles. Other than that, nothing but grief from EVERYONE else we've ever dealt with.
We redid our roof just a year or two ago and you would think for a $11-15K job they'd act differently and call back, nope! Same crap. Unreal.

I will never understand this. If I'm happy with a company's customer service, I will tell everyone I know and therefore, they get more business. If I'm unhappy, I'll tell everyone I know and therefore, they don't get more business.

I've been looking for a landscaper to remove 12 giant hedges from my property for almost 6 MONTHS. Everyone flakes out.
At this point I'm willing to pay anything just to have it done!!!!!!

Have you tried a tree company? They seem to be more reliable than landscapers

Yes, I agree. A couple years ago we needed to get one of our front steps fixed. I know it's a small job, but figured hey, it's not so complicated. I can't tell you how many companies said they would come for an estimate and didn't show. We finally got one to come and we agreed he would do it on Monday and never showed. We called and kept leaving messages. I don't understand these businesses.

Yes! It's disgusting they can get away with this behavior really. Actually had a company start a big renovation job only to disappear a few days in and not answer calls. They started a bunch of jobs at the same time and then couldn't juggle their schedules. They'd show up here or there sporadically. Some days they'd work this job, some days another job. Took forever and lots of fighting to finish. When we started the next big home renovation guess what company we didn't call?

Right?? I was so put off. For a second I was considering just keeping them through August on a weekly basis, then he texted me that and I said, "We will no longer be needing your services". Byyyyyyyye!!! Unreal how some people speak to you.

That's crazy!!! I would be livid. Reasons like this are exactly why AT BEST I'll only give a small deposit up front when I am having work done. If a company pulls this kind of crap or never gets around to finishing then can kiss their $$$ good bye.
