If you can't use the comforter in the crib, and I'm buying breathable bumpers instead of the ones that come with most bedding sets, what part of the bedding set am I really use besides the dust ruffle and the sheet?

AM i missing something?

This is exactly why we're not getting a bedding set. For some people, they use the bumpers and sometimes people use the quilt as decoration (on the back of a chair, hung on the wall, etc) so it's not a waste of money. But for us, we won't be using regular bumpers, just the breathable ones like you're using, plus sheets. We're also getting the crib skirt separately. Just makes more sense for us.

ITA with this. We are getting the skirt, sheets and breathable bumpers all separate.

I won't use the bumpers or the quilt so I'll just get a dustruffle and sheets and breathable bumpers or crib tent (haven't decided yet) on their own...

I am buying the bedding for a few reasons

1. I won't actually be buying it, someone is going to get it for me - so its a great thing to add to the registry.

2. For the first few months, the baby is not going to be in the crib, so I plan on setting up the crib with the whole set: bumpers AND comforter. Then when the baby goes in, I will switch to breathable bumpers.

3. I like the idea of "making the bed" by throwing the comforter over the crib, without the baby in it of course!

If I had to buy it myself, I definitely wouldn't. I had about 80 people at my bridal shower and my registry was wiped out so I know I will need more stuff

I didn't know you could buy the dust ruffle separately. I haven't seen it sold like that. Do BBB and BRU sell that?

That's why we didn't get them. We originally had the bedding on the registry, but then took them off deciding they were a waste and if someone was going to spend that much money, we'd rather get something we could really use. (like a car seat)

YES!!! We didn't use the bumpers, the dust ruffle (didn't look right with the crib) or the blanket in the beginning. The only thing I use now is her blanket, but that's it.

For this one I'm just buying sheets. LOL!!!

Total waste and even though people told me that, I got one anyway. I actually do use my bumpers though.

Yes, my comforter and bumpers from DS are sitting in his closet.
I DID use the bumpers for about a month when DS was so young he didn't even move.....

This baby, if it's a girl, will get sheets and a skirt and maybe the matching wall decor.....

Me too- this time around I did not get a comforter- they had a matching "crib blanket" so I got that so she can use it when she's a toddler.

I am going to buy one because I am going to use the bumpers in the beginning and dust ruffle. The blanket will go over my chair, or I'll use it for DC on the floor. And also..my MIL wants to buy one for us...so why not!

Re: Is buying a bedding set a waste of money?

Someone bought it for us, and although it is pricey, the set we picked out couldn't be bought separately. Besides, before DD starts sleeping in the crib I will set up the entire crib, and after remove the blanket to use elsewhere. RE breathable bumpers- I am not worried about those yet either.

Re: Is buying a bedding set a waste of money?

Very true! But I did use the bumpers with mine for a long time before I switched to the breathable ones and I drape the comforter on the rocking chair. I thought it was worth having...

For you, it would probably be a waste, but we use the bumpers, sheet and crib skirt, and the comforter when the baby gets older.

Re: Is buying a bedding set a waste of money?

I think it's a waste - though I did have bedding for DD. I used the bumper for a little while and the dust ruffle. But never have used the blanket - I tried using it as a blanket a few months ago - but it's a bit too stiff.

I'm glad I didn't buy it myself since it's from PBK.
