Is anyone else reading...
the Newsday story that wraps the paper for 5 days this week. It is heartbreaking, inspiring, and I had tears streaming down my face this morning on the train.
It's about a little girl named Katie Trebing who has a blood disorder called diamond blackfan. It documents their journey to helpm which included selective IVF for an exact match sibling.
It also shares stories about others that I feel balances the whole thing without swinging judgement either way.
It has really touched me...

Me too! I think you can go online and see pictures of her and see how she's currently doing.

I was reading about this yesterday, these are truly strong people to be going through such an ordeal.
My prayers go out to them!!

DH and I have both been reading it. In addition to telling a family's story, it touches on issues related to cord blood collection and banking.

I started reading on Sunday, but have to catch up tonight.
You guys should read "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult...
It deals with the issue of having a "Donor Child" from the perspective of the Donor child.

Hmmm... I may check that out.
I had never heard of doing such a thing before reading this story, but now that I have, I find the idea quite fascinating!

Re: Is anyone else reading...
Yes I have and the little girl is related to my babysitter and I have colleagues who live her on Long Island and their daughter, another Katie has the same anemia. It is amazing that it is so rare but there are 2 cases here on the Island. My friend's daughter is treated at StonyBrook.

I didn't realize the entire story was on the website. Why would they publish it day by day when you can read the outcome online?
I like the daily installments!
