is anyone else...

afraid to tell people the name you picked out due to fear of judgement or two cents? I feel reluctant to tell people the name we picked for our daughter. Does anyone else feel this way or am i crazy?

I guess I look for peoples reactions but I love the name we picked so it doesn't bother me if other people don't.

No you're not crazy and I recommend you don't tell if you don't want to. We had a pretty good idea what our son's name was going to be, though we didn't make the actual final decision until I had to write it on his birth certificate (I kid you not, I was reading baby name books in the hospital! ). I'm so glad we didn't tell anyone beforehand and I will do the same if we have any other children.

When you tell people - everybody has a comment and it really makes you second guess yourself or get upset. Even when I would tell people the names I was just considering I would get all sorts of comments. So annoying.

yeah for fear and also becasue someone already used our name once. i usually just tell people we havent decide yet

I recommend not saying anything as well. This happend to me..... I had told my mom one of the boy's names we were thinking of, and she told my grandma - my grandma hated it. As much as you say you aren't going to let people's reactions affect you, they do. So, now I'm real vague, or I throw out the 4-5 names we are thinking of, so they can't really comment.

On the other side, as my cousin put it, if they aren't paying their college tutition, then they have no say!

ETS: although it is fun on here to see what other people on here pick for their names!

Yeah, my family was shooting down names practically since the first day I announced my pg and I was like oh boy this is going to be interesting. I found that I got angry if they didn't like something or had a comment about a name I liked. Then we decided that since we found out the sex, we want to leave this as a surprise to everyone (and avoid their 2 cents!!) We have 98%decided on the name, but we are telling everyone we're still not sure and will keep it that way until he is born!

We didn't tell anyone for our first because we honestly didn't have a name picked until he was born... But amy names we tossed around of course got so many negative comments.

This time, since people know its a girl, we decided there still needs to be some surprise and so, if and when we do pick a name, we aren't telling anyone! We just haven't picked a name yet and I am almost positive I'll go into labor and we'll still be deciding.

we have names picked out, and I have gotten comments like, oh.....we are picking names that are different, bceause some of the names we have choses are common names.
But you know what....I tell them...you dont have to live with the name I CHOSE!!!!!

DH and I actually picked out names while we were on our honeymoon. We were talking while we were on the beach and stuff. We are Jewish, so it's common to use the first initial of the most recent person who passed away...so we knew what the names would start with. DH wrote them down and put the piece of paper in his wallet. He still have the piece of paper...and those are the names we are sticking with. I don't care if people don't like them...we do.

totally agree! evey name I liked someone had something to say. We are naming our baby Parker and I keep getting "it's that a boys name"?? so I just stopped telling people. It's amazing but my entire family actually likes it.

nope!

i got the funniest reaction from my MIL though... when i told her she paused and with a heavy italian accent said "ummmm...ahhhh...what's a <name>?"

it's a foreign name, not really hard to pronounce, as polite as she was trying to be, i knew she was not digging it .

I am very reluctant to tell my in-laws the names we are thinking about. Especially if I am not there and DH tells them by himself. They have a way of changing his opinions. Even if he absolutely loves a name, if one of them doesn't like it, he'll end up hating it. It's an issue I'm working on

We didn't tell anyone the real names until recently. I would hear comments from family and friends.

DH and I thought up of "fake" names and told people that. Really weird/old names, like
Ethel, Oscar, Betty, George..

We messed with soo many people it was kinda fun to see peoples faces and we didn't care since we knew her real name

I have an F U attitude to people who have the balls to tell me they don't like the name we picked. I DARE someone to tell me they don't like her name....seriously. It'll only give me free range to spout off how I feel about THEM. Freaking people

OMG totally! My dad passed in November so my mom says " well what are you naming the baby?" I said something with a G after my dad...she goes on to say well what about the middle name? Shes fishing for naming after her parents, my grandparents. To make everyone happy these kids are gonna need 4 names. I say go with what makes you feel right, not everyone else.

We are still deciding. But, EVERYONE keeps on asking us. We told people 3 names we are thinking of and EVERYONE has to make a comment. It is so annoying! Now we are thinking of a name that was not on the original list...and I won't tell until after I put it on the birth certificate.
