It's when people misuse *I* that gets me. I have people at work, ALL THE TIME, saying "Jane is going to do that for you and I."
No, "Jane is going to do that FOR you and ME."
Oh YES! Or "Between you and I..." Grrr...
But the absolute worst is...
"I's" as in, "That is Peter and I's favorite movie." What the heck IS that?!?!

Honestly, I always got confused with this until someone on HERE said to take out the "you and" part and see what still made sense.
She gave it to you and me She gave it to me
makes sense
but
she gave it to you and I she gave it to I
doesn't!

I was watching something last night and I heard that. That doesn't even make SENSE! It doesn't feel right when you say it, I can't imagine why anyone does.

Thanks you beat me to it! It drives me crazy because people "think" they are using "I" correctly but they sound even more silly! That explanation was great!
Now.... I also hate it when people use the word "conversate." It's not a word!!!
I also hate when people write "ALOT." It's TWO words! A LOT.
Sorry to change the topic but these drive me just as insane as "irregardless."

Re: Irregardless...
It drives me crazy. We did students such a disservice when junior high and high school curriculums moved away from standard grammar back in the late 80s and 90s. I teach freshman composition and I have to go over rules like comma splice, me/I, good/well, semi colon ALL THE TIME.

Ahhh, this brings me back to another Family Guy episode.
Three "non-words" or "phrases" Stewie despises are:
"irregardless" "a whole nother" "all of the sudden"
The Family Guy reference actually shows up in the pop culture section of wikipedia: "In the Family Guy episode "Stewie Kills Lois" (Part 2), Stewie threatens to consign anyone who uses the word 'irregardless' to a work camp."
Didn't Stewie say something about "All of the sudden" too? DH and I were talking about that yesterday because both of Dr. Phil's guests yesterday said this

Another thing that makes me twitch is people misusing "me" and "I." I don't mean in the usual - "Me and John went to the store" way either.
It's when people misuse *I* that gets me. I have people at work, ALL THE TIME, saying "Jane is going to do that for you and I."
No, "Jane is going to do that FOR you and ME."
I hate this. Irregardless drives me nuts too.

Re: Irregardless...
Any butchering of the English language gets to the core of my soul. I am far from perfect, but I recognize and acknowledge that. When people use "big words" to make them sound more intelligent than they are, they simply make themselves look less intelligent. JMO.

This was just on again the other night. Yet another reason why this show just utterly rocks

So glad I'm not the only one. I work with someone who always uses it and they all laugh at me when I'm busting a gut over it.

bothers me just as much as ending a question with the word "at"
where was he at?
nails on a chalkboard, i tell ya!!!!!!
both of these drive me crazy!
although my DBIL, the english professor, is so "generous "of the ever evolving English language, that he has showed me to be forgiving in these instances.
