introducing a sippy cup

DD is 6.5 months. The ped said we could start to introduce the sippy cup to get her to hold and feed herself and to make the transition away from the bottle easier. I gave her a sippy cup today with some water and she almost drown It was too much liquid for her at once. I started thinking- we never stepped her up with her nipples. She still uses a #1. Does that make a difference? I thought maybe we should switch to a #2 nipple first to get her used to a faster flow? Does that make sense? How long does it take for them to get used to a sippy?

maybe you just need a different cup? they make them for different ages which may help with the flow of the spout.

lots of people dont change nipples. I only went up to level 2's on dr. browns..but I think we started introducing sippy cups around the same age as you.

DS is 13 months and not fully off the bottle yet.

It's something new, I would say its normal. I just read something in a book today about sippys. They said to put a very small about of liquid in it, like a sips worth so that she can get the feeling of drinking from the sippy. Trying a different cup altogether is another option. Good luck!!
