Introducing a sippy cup

When did you start this and what did you put in it to drink?

Re: Introducing a sippy cup

We've given jacen one since he was 5 1/2 months i think. Mostly he just liked to play with it and bite it. Sometimes he'd actually sip it. But we wanted him to get used to having it. We only have put water in it.

now we give it to him after each time we feed him solids. Chat Icon

I thought I heard water was dangerous for babies, that is why I was unsure what to put in it Chat Icon

Re: Introducing a sippy cup

Well you don't want to give them too much (maybe 2-4 ounces at most) but at this age... it's not dangerous. When they're younger yes...

Ask your ped. At Anthony's mo appt, the doc told us to start giving him water 3-4oz per day. He said it helps with hydration (dry skin, chapped lips).

Re: Introducing a sippy cup

We introduced with DD and DS straw sippy cups at 6 months old. Both of them chewed for a second then "got it" right away to suck up the straw.Chat Icon

ETA: We put water in it.

Re: Introducing a sippy cup

We are working on this now. DD is almost 8 months.

We put 1oz juice, 2 oz water, thinking that the sweet smell and taste of apple juice would help her try to drink it. No luck yet though - she plays with the cup.

Re: Introducing a sippy cup

6 months gave it to him a few different types. He just played with it still does at 10 months. I put in apple juice with water. I have taken the plastic insert in so he sees he can drink it but it gets everywhere do not reccommend especially since it is freezing outside!!
