Interesting article
Of course I devoured this article on the elevator up to my apt. While I think its one sided and cold hard facts are absent, it made me realize that I am that woman the writer is talking about. Dang it, I hate to be that woman!!! In all seriousness though, its making me totally bummed. I don't want to bum you out too, but I thought it was such an interesting perspective not to share.

Re: Interesting article
wow very interesting....i dont think the pill is the only reason women have pushed back the age for getting married and getting pregnant. But i do agree that the pill covers up so many other issues you may have that when you are ready to ttc you are facing these issues later when you may not have as much time...
i wish i knew what i know now about CM and temps way back in the day! i cant tell you how many times i got a "surprise" and had to change pants because i wasnt prepared for AF!!

Re: Interesting article
The pill is a great invention but... I think the pharmaceutical companies shove them down women's throats almost.
After all the other things that women have to deal with in this world -- neverfreakinmind all the stuff women have had to deal with throughout history (we'd be here all day)...
I'm talking about today. 2010. Women still have to deal with so many things men do not.
So many of us here have been on BC of some form for a good chunk of our adult lives when nature is busy intending for us to be having children at those ages.
Then we come off BC and our bodies wreak havoc on ourselves and after spending so many years trying not to get pregnant -- all we want is TO get pregnant and because we 'wanted it all' -- we get punished by making our very 'purpose' on life hard to fulfill.
I used to think if I had a girl... when she was a teenager I'd put on her on BC just to be safe.
I think a much better way of going about things (for me anyways) would've been my own mother just sitting me down and saying 'You know, you're going to have sex when you want to. I really strongly encourage you to wait until you're at least out of high school. There will be plenty of time for sex in life. We would really like you to wait -- but if you absolutely CANNOT wait... do not EVER let a guy try to convince you to have sex without a condom. If he wants to have sex badly enough... he will wear one. And if he isn't willing to make that sacrifice -- how do you think he will be when he needs make HUGE sacrifices like he will if you get pregnant. Not to mention STDs etc etc etc.'
And then from the very get go... I will drill it into her brain to keep track of her cycles.
I never bothered to keep track. No one taught me how anyways.
Communication ladies!!! Remember this when we have teenagers.
They want to have sex. We will have to deal with it in some way, shape or form...

Re: Interesting article
It is definitely an interesting article.
I find it really disconcerting that the woman that wrote Taking Charge of Your Fertility doesn't have kids!

Re: Interesting article
I'm not TTCing yet but when I read the article last night, I thought of this board.
Everything in the article was spot on for me. It's a very different way to look at the pill and it shed light on the possibility of infertility, something I never thought of while I was gallavanting around NYC in my 20s popping my pill every morning. I got started the pill at 16 and at 30, I've been on for 14 straight years (I went on the pill before becoming sexually active, it was to help my heavy periods and cramps that made me stay in bed and miss school). Sigh...what's in store for me when I get off the pill? We plan to TTC in a year or so and I wonder what will happen when we do, how my cycle will be, will we get pregnant fast, etc.

Good article. I did not know that Follitism (or other follie stimulating) drugs were orginally derived from the urine of postmenopausal nuns.

ITA i had nooo idea about any of this before coming off BCP. I should have taught myself about it BEFORE going ON BCP. If I have a daughter, I will also make sure hustory doesnt repeat itself.
