Interesting - 20 ways Obama agrees with GWB
link to CNN
"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Since Barack Obama incessantly makes the case that a John McCain administration would equate to another Bush term, it's worth looking at just how much Sen. Obama himself is in agreement with the unpopular president. "

I started to re-read it- and she is pushing it on most of it
if you closely read it- she takes bits and peices of things they have both SAID - some back in 2001
not things that Bush has passed or done that Obama agrees with-
here is a classical example- she says the agree on tax cuts for the middle class
Bush said it was a good idea (never did it)
Obama wants to do it - major point of his campaign
she is saying that they agree on that- well I am sure they will agree grass is green- but it doesn't mean that they actually have the same values and that Obama will be anything like GWB

Regardless of her Rep. affiliations, how is she pushing it? It seemed like he really did agree with all of these points.

"Perhaps unbeknownst to him (Obama), Bush has already been there, done that. In signing the 2001 Tax Cut Bill, Bush said: "Tax relief is an achievement for families struggling to enter the middle class. For hard-working lower-income families, we have cut the bottom rate of federal income tax from 15 percent to 10 percent. We doubled the per-child tax credit to $1,000, and made it refundable. ... Tax relief is an achievement for middle-class families squeezed by high energy prices and credit card debt."

quote from the article- #12- how is this something they agree on??????
Health care: While they don't share similar views on universal health care coverage, Bush and Obama agree that the problem with health care is "about affordability" and there is a need to address minority health concerns with more coverage and targeting. That is why Bush expanded community health care centers, covering the uninsured and targeting urban areas, to the tune of $1.5 billion for 1,200 centers "coast to coast."

Re: Interesting - 20 ways Obama agrees with GWB
more on the 2001 tax cut bill
and more... "Highlights of the $1.35 Trillion Tax Cut Package Tax Rates The top 38.6% rate will be cut to 35 percent by 2006, while the current 35% rate will drop to 33% by 2006. The 30% percent rate will ultimately fall to 28%, while the 27% bracket will be cut to 25%. The 15% rate remains the same, but a new 10% rate applies to the first $6,000 of taxable income for single taxpayers and $12,000 for married couples filing jointly.
Child Credit Child credit rose from $500 to $600 for 2001-2004 and will gradually rise to $1,000 in 2010. Education: The contribution limit for tax advantaged education IRA accounts was raised from $500 to $2,000.
Retirement Tax-favored contribution limits for IRAs and Roth IRAs are gradually raised from $3,000 to $5,000 (2008). Tax-deferred contribution limits for 401(k)-type plans gradually increase from $12,000 (2003) to $15,000 (2006).

and btw - just b/c Obama "wants" to, doesn't mean it's going to happen. the money has to come from somewhere.

last paragraph:
So, although he has been ranked as the most liberal senator by the National Journal and obviously hasn't voted with Bush as often as Sen. McCain has -- based on his voting "record" -- Obama's "rhetoric" still sounds a lot like, well, Bush. McCain might want to take that into account the next time Obama talks about another Bush term.

Re: Interesting - 20 ways Obama agrees with GWB
she's really reaching, isn't she? give me a break
i agree with beth on this one...this COMMENTARY is very slanted - even open ended on some points...
for example, re the Supreme Court ruling on gun ban:
Despite his past endorsements of some gun control measures, Obama's reaction to the recent Supreme Court decision upholding the constitutional right of individuals to own handguns mirrors the administration's. Obama now says: "As a general principle, I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms."
for some reason, i think that last sentence continued with an "HOWEVER...." --- if she's going to COMMENT, she should use ALL the facts - not just take bits and pieces of statemtents.
besides...this is TWENTY - 2-0 - "reasons" -- 20 out of HOW MANY points???? i'm sure there are TWICE (if not more) as many points where he DIFFERS from GWB

Re: Interesting - 20 ways Obama agrees with GWB
I didn't read the article, but I don't see the big deal with Obama agreeing with McCain or Bush on some issues. It is silly to think that because they are members for opposing parties they MUST disagree on every issue. They do disagree on lots if issues and are two COMPLETELY different men, with different values, goals, leadership strengths etc. Anyone who doesn't see that or who would read this piece and then believe that Obama is just like Bush would also probably believe just about anything you fed him or her.
Edited b/c I never proofread and make mistakes...

I agree. She's interpreting to suit her purpose- she is a Republican.
McCain has accused Obama as being the most partisan senator- so it's not like he can use this to his advantage. It would actually make him look like he hasn't done his homework.

What is very interesting is that although Obama is "liberal", he still thinks that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. How is this liberal? It sounds pretty conservative to me!
