Independent play at 8.5 months.

So im just wondering if this is good or bad or normal or not.

DS seems to be great at playing independently. When we are home he kind of just goes from toy to toy playing.. I try and get in there and "play" along but unless we are playing with the bouncy balls there's really no back and forth I guess.

Like I said.. he loves throwing and rolling the balls back and forth and we play with a see thru scarf peek a boo but other than that hes really content just roaming the floor playing with his toys.

thoughts? (not really concerned just something I thought of last night watching him play)

I'm sure it is fine, it isn't like you aren't giving him any attention at all. If he's happy that is all that matters!

DC are the same exact way. They do definitely have their moments when they want to be held or entertained but they will play alone for much longer than I expected. I try to "play" with them but usually all they want to do is climb all over me when I'm on the floor with them. I am just happy they can entertain themselves Chat Icon

Hello Linda... have you ever read my posts?! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

You just described Mason AKA Mr Independent

Totally not a Mommy's boy, but he's not anybody's boy. I could hand him to a total stranger and he's content, but put him down and he finds the nearest toy.

He's been like that since Day 1. I remember one of our first family GTG's with the inlaw's side. DH's cousin has kids attached to her legs and they won't go anywhere else. THere's Mason crawling away from me and smiling at everyone. I could've left and he's fine.
Doesn't wine or cry when I leave him at school either while other kids yell out "Ma Ma"
Sometimes I feel like I've done something wrong. Why doesn't he want mommy.
Then I see mom's that can't put their kid down and I can enjoy a cup of coffee while Mason is content with his ball popper on the floor. Turns to me and smiles and back to play. Sometimes he crawls over for a hug and kiss Chat Icon then back to playing.

Take it as a blessing! Chat Icon
