Independent play
How much time on the average would you say your baby spends playing independently as opposed to you playing with him or her?

Re: Independent play
I don't know exactly, probably a couple of hours a day if you space it over the whole day. A lot of times she'll play fine by herself if you're in the room with her and talking with her while she's playing.

Re: Independent play
Not a lot at all. I wish she would play by herself a little more but I am not sure how to get her to do it. She will play with her blocks but she has to bring them to me and stuff like that.

Re: Independent play
Emily is more into independent exploring then play these days.....I try to sit down with her and play with her toys but she's too active. Building block towers and having her knock them down or playing ith her toys only works for a minute or two. She's more interested in climbing things, pressing buttons on DH's stereo equipment, climbing under the kitchen table/chairs, and looking for itty bitty specks of fuzz on the floor to put in her mouth then playing with me!!

Same here!! This is why I'm asking... I feel like Jake doesn't want to play with me He's too busy looking for trouble.

Even though I'm the typical teacher mom who is obsessed with making my baby the smartest little thing in the world -- developmentally she's probably doing exactly what she should be and is learning TONS through exploration --- as much as it drives me crazy for a number of reasons! I'm thinking that it is OK. I still do get to read her about 3-4 books a day although she prefers her cloth ones with little flappers and different textured fabrics, and when we go out to places like target and to the pool we talk like crazy -- so I count those things as our "interaction" time -- expanding her vocabulary and stuff....and in the house I just let her explore.
