In your opinion...

What is the best type/brand/make of paint out there? I'm not talking finishes or colors, but what are the good quality paints?

Re: In your opinion...

Benjamin Moore. My DH formerly had a high end paint contracting business and he would only use those products, unless his client wanted something specific. He also said the Ralph Lauren paints worked well but he definitely prefers BM.

Re: In your opinion...

I have used both Behr and Benjamin Moore and would use both again.

I am using BM to paint my new bedroom b/c I like the color selection of the Natura (no VOC) paint better than Behr's (or Home Depots) Fresh Aire. but we used Behr to paint most rooms in our house last year and they look great (picking the wrong color notwithstanding Chat Icon )

ETA: there are other really high end paints that I would LOVE to use but can't afford Chat Icon Farrow and Ball is a prime example of that.

Re: In your opinion...

BM & I kind of like Valspar. Both BM & Valspar have great colors. Recently I choice a Valspar color, but bought BM Natura paint. BM color matched it. Chat Icon

Re: In your opinion...

We have only used Behr and Valspar and HATED the Valspar. It didn't cover well at all and was really thick. The Behr was ok.

Re: In your opinion...

I really actually like Behr. We've used it all my life and have never had a single problem with it. I just painted a whole entire house with it a year ago and love it. I used Sherwin Williams in one room and it's chipping alreadyChat Icon

Re: In your opinion...

We have not had any luck at all with BM and would never use it again. DS's room is blue, and I used a baby wipe - A BABY WIPE - to clean something off the wall and the whole wipe was blue. The paint came right off! It also comes off wherever anything rubs against or hits the wall. It covers well but doesn't seem to last.

A few years ago we used Glidden in DS's bedroom (now play room) and that room gets lots of abuse - still looks freshly painted. Don't know how good the new Glidden is.

We also tried Valspar and didn't like that.

Re: In your opinion...

BM and Sherwinn Williams, I used Behr and had to repaint over it, it was so crappy.

Mythic Paint. Quality is just as good as BM, but it's 100% VOC free. Even the "claimed" zeroVOC paint from BM isn't VOC free, but the government allows them to claim that it is.Chat Icon

Out of the three we've used:

BM is the best
Behr is second, would use again
Glidden is worst, never will use again

Re: In your opinion...

My parents just used BM and if you wash the wall you can see it has been washed. Not very happy with that (my parents used to make us wash the walls once a year, had wash the cabinets and all trim work and I expect to do the same in my house yearly.)

I am really wondering what to use myself since I always thought BM. BUT i am going to see what type of BM paint they used (think it was the low toxic natural one) and maybe go to the normal type since we do not have young children to worry about smelling paint. Otherwise Behr.
