Posting here because this is where I am most of the time...question - want your opinion about an interview...

Some of you know my situation at work - after 5.5 years and maternity leave I lost my spot...

I had 2 interviews last week. One I will call them back today and see where we stand (I asked them not to call me because I'm back at work and they don't know I'm looking). I'm 99% sure I got the job, I had 2 interviews within 2 days with them and spent over 4 hrs there total.

What I'd like your opinions on is this: I had an interview with another firm on Friday and I'm very interested in the position...plus it's literally 5 minutes from my house. He said he would get back to me fast and just had to talk to his partner. Now it's Tuesday morning and I haven't heard back yet. I know it's still early but I'm so anxious to hear from him...and I'd really rather take this job over the other one.

I did leave him a voice mail over the weekend thanking him for the interview and said I look forward to hearing from him.

What should I do? Should I call him or wait longer? I'm so not a good "waiter" LOL

I would try to hold off on calling the first firm until later today to see if you hear from the second one.

I would call him again and thank him again for his time, and ask him status of situation, if he's spoken to his partner yet, how you love the company and would like to work for them but you don't want to put all your eggs in one basket. Of course wording would be changed to be more professionalChat Icon

I have my fingers crossed for you that you get the job you really want!

My job search has just begun, my spot will be filled too.

I know you are anxious -- but a lot of the girls on NFR have been following up with "thank you" notes/cards after interviews -- just basically summing up what they think they can add to the company, how it would also help to expand thier careers and experience/etc, so maybe something like that would be nice and wouldn't seem like you are desperate! Not saying that you are desperate but I don't know if seeming too eager would be a good thing in all situations. Some people find phone calls a pita!

I wouldn't call them back today because you already left a voicemail thanking them for the interview. Wait a couple of more days. If you don't hear by Thursday, you can call them back as a follow up.
How far is the other job that you interviewed for?
I wish you all the best!!

I wouldn't call back, since you already left a message. I always forward an interview with a thank you letter. I would only call again if the other job offered you the position.

Then I would call them and let them know you have a job offer, but are interested in them and wanted to see if they felt the same.

The other job is about 15-20 mins from my house. Both jobs mean I would be OUT of NYC, which is my main goal. The one closer to my house would just be so perfect.

I guess I'll wait longer...oh I just want to know!!

I think you guys are right. I will wait and see what happenes when I call the other place today. If/when they offer me the job I'll call back the job that I really would prefer.

I would call firm #1 and find out your status. If they offer you a job, just tell them that you need a day to think about it - they made an offer and will usually keep it open for at least 24 hours. At the same time, call firm #2 to follow-up. Tell the attorney that you are very interested in working for them but that you've received another offer, with a deadline to make a decision within 24 hours, but you would prefer to work for them. That usually gets a quick response...

Beth, yes excellent idea. That's my plan. I'm 99% sure I'll get the offer from firm #1 so I'll see what happens when I call them this afternoon.
