I think it's impressive - I can't hear it, but I can bet she's not a "Yankee"
Our kids don't do those kind of things ..........but in the South, where it's just regular every day life, as long as she's taught the SAFETY and RESPONSIBILITY of it, she's pretty damn impressive !!

Re: Impressive or Frightening

honestly i would say impressive. i know because its with an AR rifle it seems crazy as hell....but this girl probably is more versed in gun safety than people twice her age.

we may not understand it---but judging by their accents--they sound southern---its just more acceptable down south to handle weapons.

the fact that she can do something that men in the military take longer doing--yeah i'm still going with impressive

Re: Impressive or Frightening

this skill of THIS particular little girl is impressive.

and maybe she IS well versed in gun safety (though she put her finger on the trigger when she tested it...NOT safe)

but there are thousands...dare I say hundreds of thousands of kids with access to these weapons.

as far as I know Wynn Dixie has a full butcher section.

NO CHILD should be handling a gun of this fire power.

I'd go so far to say that no civilian should. but I don't want this to necessarily become an NRA battle either.

Re: Impressive or Frightening

That terrifies me. I am not saying she will use that knowledge for evil, but the potential is what is frightening.

PS- I live in the south, this is not "normal"

i lived in the carolinas for 5 years bouncing around--and while using this particular firearm isn't as common...i definitely found that when i was talking with people in college who grew up in the carolinas, georgia, alabama, etc.....MANY of them had been raised understanding the safety of guns and using them with parents....be it for hunting and sport (rifles, shotguns, etc.) or just appreciating and understanding hand guns. i feel it is more common down there than here.

ITA. As long as her father taught her when to use it and when NOT to use it then she prob has more respect for it than some kid who happens to come across a gun and thinks it's a toy.

Honestly, let's hope it never comes to this, but in a world where safety is a huge concern she's possibly more prepared for defending herself than many of us are.

there is such strong evidence that suggests otherwise.

in what situation would she need to use this weapon...???

is there some kind of Red Dawn prophecy I am unaware of?

kids who's parents own guns...who are taught "safety" die every day from accidents.

bigotry was very common in the south too...doesn't make it right.

Neither, really. I mean, I guess it's cool to set a new record, but what's the point of doing that so quickly?

i'm not really sure why biggotry is being compared to a girl who has been taught about how to strip and re-assemble her gun? Chat Icon

i think all he was saying was that this girl probably understands and respects this weapon more than those who do not receive proper education on it. and by knowing how to use this weapon--she can defend herself with it. i'm not say she will have to use a military rifle for anything everyday---but it was just another observation he made

Re: Impressive or Frightening

It's legal to own a gun -

I wouldn't want one in the house if I had children, but, many many people do -

This is bit extreme, but rather than pretending it's not there, isn't it better that a child be taught the safety and responsibility of it? -
I'd 'hope' that kid would be safer with something like that in the house than the kid who just stumbled upon it and had no clue about it -

my statement about bigory was not being compared to the little girl and her gun...it was being compared to things that are common in the south that we wouldn't understand here. there is the correlation I was making.

I read his statement. and fully comprehended it. I just disagree with it. and that is my observation.

I still think it's impressive. Is it right for a kid that young? Probably not but she's not my kid. If I were into hunting my kids would most likely know their way around firearms. But I'm not so it's a moot point.

well that I have to agree with. she's not mine either.

Re: Impressive or Frightening

I think its impressive. I grew up with guns- all of my uncles and both grandfathers. I also come from a long family history of hunters- crucify me now... I appreciate and respect her ability to do that. It all comes down to an individual's education and respect for the gun. ITA that these children are much wiser than children that are not made aware of them, and are less likely to use it as a toy.

Ok, first I just have to clear this up. It's my reply that you're discussing, not Kevin's. Chat Icon

My comment had nothing to do with the girl and her father being from the south. I just feel that if a gun is going to be in the house it's better that the kids are taught to respect its power and maybe even get to touch it (unloaded of course). The alternative all too often leads to curious fingers and "accidents". Not that those accidents don't occur with educated individuals, but I would think less so. My theory could be wrong, I've read no studies on this topic. Take my opinion soley for what it is: an opinion.
