I'm so upset.
This whole switching to formula is an f-ing nightmare. I'm doing one ounce formula to 3 ounces BM at her feedings and she is spitting up all over the place, refusing to eat her whole bottle, having the most outrageous stomache rumbles and gassy as can be. I'm just so sick to my stomache seeing my baby like this. I can't take this. Everyone keeps telling me it's just her system adjusting, but come on, this is ridiculous. This kid is MISERABLE.

Re: I'm so upset.
Most likely the formula isn't the right one for her. It does take time but if she is that miserable, I don't think it should be that bad and you shouldn't have to see your girl that way. I'd call the doctor and talk about switching to something else. Are you on cows milk? Soy?

It happened with the cow's milk and now it's happening with the soy.

Re: I'm so upset.
How many days has it been? Only a few, right?
I'd call the dr. in the AM.
Hopefully you don't need to go as far as Nutramigen or something like that but it sounds like Ava isn't tolerating the regular formulas so well.

Re: I'm so upset.
I gave Luka Mylcon drops after each bottle for about a week and then I stopped giving it to him. I thought it might help ease him into digesting the formula. Not sure if it helped but after about a week I didnt need it anymore. Maybe try Enfamil Gentle Ease or maybe the Hypoallgenric one. Did you ask your doctor? DS is on Enfamil A.R. because the amout of spit up he had each day was way to much so I put him on that with the dr. browns bottle and I saw a difference in a day. Maybe ask your dr. about that also.

Re: I'm so upset.
Ok, I'm a little annoyed about the whole dr. situation. I told him that I think Ava has a dairy sensitivity, but he said try her on the cow's milk formula and to switch her over cold turkey, that I didn't need to do it gradually. Ok, well, I didn't agree on going cold turkey, so I mixed, but I used the cow's milk formula, and she got puffy, red eyes and a red nose, the same things that happened when I eat dairy, so I switched her on my own to the soy. No more red, puffy eyes or nose, but still a hard time passing it through her system. She's only been on the soy two days. I don't know, she slept for three hours before, and she slept all last night with no fuss. I'm just going to give him a call in the morning. This is just so ridiculous and it's only ONE OUNCE of formula at each bottle. I can't imagine what would have happened if I went cold turkey like he said.

Re: I'm so upset.
Yes, she has AR and is on Zantac. We do give the Mylicon, as well, but in this case, it's doing nothing.

Re: I'm so upset.
I know how you feel I was at my wits end running to one specialist after another looking for answers. I even went to a chiropractor with her (total waste). Honestly she just had to grow out of it. Eventually it didn't make difference whether it was formula or breastmilk, she stopped being in pain but she kept spitting up which in itself is enough to send a mother into a straight jacket.

Re: I'm so upset.
maybe it's the BM mixed with the soy? Are you giving her straight soy formula?
how old is she? I know at 6 weeks Alysons' gas issues eased up (I had also stopped supplementing 1 BM bottle a day). She was still gassy for awhile after that too....
Do you or DH have digestive issues? Rich is lactose intolerant so we thought that she had inherited that and my whole family has issues.
I read that 3 days is the MINIMUM to adjust to a new formula....and it MAY BE up to 2 weeks. Give it some more time. Is she having trouble passing the gas or is the spitting up the only issue? What kind of water are you using? I noticed when she was young, boiling the Brita water helped. And I hate to say it, but SOMETIMES they just need to grow out of it.
is it powder or RTF? I got stuck while away and had to give Aly RTF since we were out of powder and I noticed her gas was better than it normally is on powder.

Re: I'm so upset.
do you have a supply problem? does she have issues with all bm? BM and formula taste very different so perhaps she doesn't like the taste. If she is getting puffy and red..I would call an allergist asap and switch peds. I would stop the formula and use only BM until I knew exactly what was going on. Hugs!!

Re: I'm so upset.
Can you try the gentlease? Joseph has reflux since he's 6wks old - and I was supplementing here and there w/ gentlease. He's never had a problem w/ it. He'd spit up from goodstart and soy but the gentlease has worked well with us... good luck!

Re: I'm so upset.
I just don't know what to do. I am such a mess emotionally and mentally. I was switching her to formula to help ease my guilt and frustration over what I ate and how it was affecting her, but now, on the formula, it's HORRIBLE. She's way worse than I ever could have imagined she could be. I just gave her a bottle of just BM, and she took it no problem. Ate the whole thing and is resting comfortably right now. I'm thinking of just saying to hell with it and keeping her on BM only. I cut my pumping down to twice a day and I'm still producing more milk than she can drink in a day, so maybe if I can keep that going, we'll just stick to BM. I'm just so upset. I have never been this conflicted about anything in my life. As much as I love her, this has been t he worst 7 weeks of my life. Nothing has been easy with this baby since day one, and I'm just so drained.

Re: I'm so upset.
rach im so sorry your having such a hard time. do you think you should get a second opinion from another pediatrician since your not comfortable withthe doctors direction. i was curious why your doctor said formula instead of bm since its suppose to be the best for the baby. i hope things start to get better for you. i hate to see you so upset.

Re: I'm so upset.
I didn't read anyone else's response , so I don't know if anyone else suggested this, but have you talked to the Dr about trying Nutramigen? It sounds to me like she may be allergic to cows milk AND soy- its very common. Nutramigen has broken down milk proteins that make it easy for the baby to digest. We saw a difference immediately. Why don't you try that?
Hugs hugs hugs ! I remember how incredibly heartbreaking it was to see your baby scream in pain.

Re: I'm so upset.
Ugh sweetie - I feel your pain as I've been through the SAME THING with Jack. I know groovypeg is having the same problems with her daughter also. Its a nightmare to deal with and every person tells you something different.
With Jack it was a milk protein allergy along with colic and reflux. By 4 months the colic stopped but it took them almost 5 months to figure out he had reflux b/c not every baby who has reflux spits up.
I am surprised they put her on soy....usually if they are allergic to milk they don't ever give them soy....usually straight to Nutramigen or Alimentum.
The only combo that worked was Axid for the reflux and Nutramigen formula. Between the two I saw a difference in 24 hours.
I know how fustrating this is.....trust your instincts and if you aren't getting the answers you need DEMAND that your doc calls a gastro and gets you an appointment ASAP. My ped's did and I'm so glad they did.
Hugs to you!!!!!!!!
