So glad your surgery went well and you are back!
As far as teaching not to hit or what to do when JAG touches your face, each time he does it, you need to get up and walk away and remind sternly, "Don't touch mommy's face." After time and time again, JAG will notice that when he touches your face, mommy will leave...he will stop. The consequences just need to be consistant.
As far as doing things to interact with JAG that you can do while sitting and relaxing...puzzles, watch a movie / show together, blow bubbles, playdough, coloring, read a book...etc. That way JAG is distracted, mommy can rest, and you guys can share your time together.

Glad you are home and everything went well.
I did not read everyone's responses, but perhaps taking one of his teddy bears and putting a big bandage on it and explaining how gentle he has to be with his bear and mommy. Sometimes, its just easier for them to understand when its a toy.
