I'm at my wits end- toddler sleep problems
I apologize if this is long, I just don't know what else to do. My youngest turned 2 in April. Up until 3 weeks ago she was a great sleeper. Since she was 3wks old, all I've ever had to do was put her down in her crib awake, and she would put herself to sleep. One night a few weeks ago, she climbed out of her crib. Since then she would continuously climb out ALL NIGHT LONG. Eventually when she would fall asleep, she would stay asleep. Except one night, she climbed out of her crib all stealth like and came downstairs into my room. Stood along side my bed in the pitch blackness and scared the ******* shit out of me. That was it lol I had it We switched her to a big girl bed cause she would NOT stay in her crib. Since then she will not stay in her bed or fall asleep on her own. We have to sit at the end of her bEd until she falls asleep. She will stay sleeping for a few hours and then somewhere between 1-4am she will come down into my bed to sleep for the rest of the night. Normally I wouldn't mind locking the gate at the top of the stairs and letting her CIO, I wouldn't care if she cried herself to sleep on the floor. However, she shares a room with her older sister and if I let her CIO upstairs I will have 2 screaming toddlers awake ALL NIGHT. Especially my oldest is not the type to cry herself to sleep anymore. She will just cry for hoursssss. Wtf do I do?! I can't have her wake up every night and come Into my bed. I used to have kids who HATED sleeping in my bed. Hated. Wouldn't even stay with me if they were sick, always loved their own beds. Now my 2yr old won't leave me alone and she's keeping us up all night. I'm more exhausted than I was in the newborn days. Any advice??

I have no experience, and I'm so dreading moving DD to a toddler bed, since like your DD used to do, she sleeps so well in her crib, but just wanted to send some
I'm assuming it's not an option to put her in her own room?

Unfortunately it's not. We are only in a 2bd rm house but we are going to be rear dormering it hopefully in the next year (which doesn't help me now lol)

do they still nap? my daughter did the same thing for months. (she used to be an awesome sleeper too!) we would have to lay with her to get her to sleep and then she owuld wake up screaming and we would have to go back in and lay with her the rest of the night. we just got rid of her nap and suddenly shes going to sleep on her own again and staying in bed all night.

My oldest (who's 3.5) doesn't nap anymore so she's completely exhausted at night and passes out right away. The youngest maybe naps like 2-3 days a week. She started to decrease her naps around the time she turned 2. She's VERY active, doesn't stop going all day. So she used to pass out as soon as she hit the mattress. Now she's decreasing her sleep every day (and mine! Lol) yet still as crazy as ever during the day.

Can you move your older dd out the room temporarily while you do CIO? Maybe have her sleep on an air mattress somewhere else while you get your younger dd sleeping better. I am not in big beds yet so I don't have experience but a friend of mine used a "super nanny " method. Nothing crazy you just go in the first time she gets out and put her back in bed and tell her you love her, it's time for nite nite, you need to stay in your bed , (something like this) but every time after that you Just go in put her back in bed and say nothing. Good luck

I think we are going to try something like this tonight. Maybe I can keep my oldest DD awake a little longer tonight so we can get the little one to sleep first. But she screams waking up during the night. So I'm pretty sure either way everyone's going to wake up regardless
Ugh idk what happened that she's like this . Out of nowhere!

We moved out my older DS when we did CIO with the younger one. It really helped.
I am dreading that day - DS 2 is a great sleeper like your DD was - and I know he's going to climb out of the crib any time now and it's going to be a disaster.

i was going to suggest this also.
When we moved DD in a crib at little over 2 it took us a few days before she would just stay in the bed. we did the method of which we go in at 10 minutes tell her mommy and daddy are here its ok good night. and then we did 15 min then 20 etc by 45 minutes she stopped it got shorter day 2 and day 3 and we did this at the same time where DH was falling asleep with her everynight cause she kept climbing out of her pack and play (she was temporarily in her play room while her room was getting redone)
Eventually she will stop expecting you to sit with her when you stop doing it I would def suggest not letting her be able to get to you if possible.
Maybe your other DD will get use to her crying and ignore it. I have a friend who kids share a room and one of them can be throwing a tantrum and the other one will sleep right through it.
