if you've dropped the nighttime bottle...

When does DC get there last cup of milk? I'm not really rushing things, although I wish I had been more diligent this summer getting her off the bottle! DD takes her afternoon milk in a sippy pretty well and SOMETIMES she takes the morning milk in a sippy just fine...other times she starts drinking from the cup and then doesn't want anything to do with it. I think this week I'm just going to go cold turkey with the morning milk. I don't know what to do about bedtime though. I don't want to screw up her bedtime routine. When do you give the last cup of milk? What's your bedtime routine now that you've dropped that bottle?

Re: if you've dropped the nighttime bottle...

Once my DS started taking the milk from a cup during the day I just went cold turkey with the night time bottle. I kept the routine the same, however I gave him a cup of milk instead of the bottle. He objected at first, but then took to it. He did this for about a week or so and then we just stopped giving him one. His last cup of milk is at dinner. He never seemed bothered by not getting it. We keep the routine the same, just no milk.

As for the morning, we did the same thing. Just went in with a cup of milk instead of a bottle. He took much longer to give up that cup of milk for some reason. Once I started sending in DH with it he got mad and decided he didn't want it anymore. If I knew all I had to do was send DH in I would have done it MONTHS ago!!!

Hope this makes sense.

Good luck!

DS is 17 months. He has a 5 oz sippy cup of milk when he wakes up, a 5 oz bottle before nap time, a 5 oz sippy of milk in teh afternoon, and a 3 oz sippy cup of milk right before bed.

I was so nervous about switchign the bedtime bottle to a sippy... but I just kept the routine exactly the same - I hold DS and rock him while giving him the sippy, etc. It didnt' go so great the first 2-3 nights. If I remember correctly, he just pushed it away and didn't take much milk, if any. When he did this, I just gave him his kisses and put him in the crib. I felt terrible not giving him any milk, but after a few days it was fine = he took the sippy without a problrm.

Now I just have to switch the naptime bottle!

At about 16 months DS was starting to not finish his milk ever night (it was in a sippy for a few months) and when he did finish it, I had to change the sheets in the morning (even though he was wearing overnight diapers). I was going crazy.

So, I just started giving him his second cup of milk (ped said two 8 oz cups a day after he turned one) with a snack about 3 pm. He did fine.

Our night routine remained the same (minus the milk).... bath, books, bed
