How and when did you get rid of the nighttime bottle?

Logan still winds down with that everynight after bathtime.

I'm just wondering at what age you stopped and how you did it?

Cold turkey? Weening? Sippy cup instead of bottle?

Thanks!

Right now we are putting in less milik and adding water, hoping this will wean her..... But she had a stromach virus a few days ago and couldn't have any dairy and seemed ok without it...Chat Icon

We did it at about 14 months. I started by giving her a sippy cup of milk first and then a bottle with less ounces every few days. Example:

Night 1 - 3 - sippy cup with 6oz. bottle

Night 4-6- sippy cup with 4 oz. bottle

It didn't even seem to affect her and now she just takes a sippy cup of milk before she goes to bed.

At 12 months we took Lucas off all bottles except the nighttime one. At 13 months we had planned to stop the nighttime bottle but as luck would have it we had two consecutive nights where he knocked out and went straight to bed without the bottle (we were out so he fell asleep in the car) so we decided to stop at that point...we never gave him another bottle and that same week I threw them all out.

He gets a sippy cup of milk at night before bed. Right now we read while he drinks and then he goes into the crib when we are done.

Re: How and when did you get rid of the nighttime bottle?

I just did this about two weeks ago (alittle over 14 months)

The first night was hard. He drank only half of his sippy of milk.

The next night a little bit more.

Now he drinks the whole thing.

I just did it cold turkey

DS loves milk so much that transitioning to sippy cups was a breeze.

We stopped all bottles over 1 month ago. We give his last milk at least 30 minutes before bed time.

Thomas hasn't had a nighttime bottle since about 13 months.

His morning bottle was the last to go at 15 months.

He never had a nighttime sippy.

13 months - one bottle a day (morning)
15 months - totally off bottles

If Logan needs it to wind down, I'd try a sippy instead of a bottle. Then worry about weaning nighttime sippy.

Re: How and when did you get rid of the nighttime bottle?

We transitioned to all sippys at 10mos

We always did dinner at 6pm, then the last sippy of milk at 7pm, then bath and bed.

Once he started eating more at dinner, I thought milk after was just too much. I just offered water in the sippy instead of milk and giving it at dinner...and that was it.

DS is 12 months and we still give him a bottle in the morning and at night...this is my time to cuddle with him and he likes to have his bottle but doesn't NEED it KWIM? I think some people rush their kids to get them off that bottle (to each its own I know) but I can't see a nighttime bottle hurting them even at 2! I think you should do it when both you and your DC are comfortable at stopping them.

I agree

I know I will eventually take it away but I see no issue with it since its comfort and call me weak, I feel bad takingi t away when he enjoys it. Its not like he drinks it our in public, cries for a bottle etc. He doesnt ask for one, its just given to him. I will probably try to transition in the new yr. to a sippy cup. Right now he needs the milk cause of his weight.

If you're bad then I'm worse. DD still gets 3 bottles a day. I've tried the sippy cup and she just won't take it.

I am the WORST then....my DD still gets all her milk in a bottle and juice and water in sippys. It comforts her and I see nothing wrong with it. Chat Icon

Re: How and when did you get rid of the nighttime bottle?

I stopped cold turkey when she was 12 months. I was running low on formula...she had her 1 year appointment and the doctor told me to switch her to milk. For lunch...she got a sippy with milk and the same for dinner. She used to get a bottle with formula right before bed...but that night I didn't give it to her. She didn't look for it and she never looked for the bottle again. I threw them all out the next day.

Lily decided about a week or two ago that she didn't want bottles anymore. So it was all her.

I just as bad. Charlie is 2 and still take 3 a day. He will not take milk from a sippy cup for anything!

ON her 1st birthday my dd happily accepted a sippy cup at night and that was that. Interestingly, 3 weeks later she saw my nephew with a bottle and flipped out trying to get it.

When he was 12 months and we stopped bottles altogether.

I don't think he missed it, or misses it. He has milk with dinner, and I usually keep the cup out until he goes to bed so he can graze if he wants it.

Re: How and when did you get rid of the nighttime bottle?

I stopped bottles during the day at 11 months & used sippy cups. The morning & night bottles I used until about 2 weeks ago. We were out one night & I didn't have a bottle with me so I used a sippy cup & she was fine. The next morning I used a cup again & that was it. No more bottles. Make sure you get rid of them - I was sure she didn't see them since!

Edit - I never thought she would be so easy with this - she cried for her bottle every morning & night before I stopped & thought it would be hard. I think it was the milk she wanted & not the bottle!

Re: How and when did you get rid of the nighttime bottle?

i'm nervous that so many of your DC's just didn't want it anymore...because I know this WILL NOT be the case with my DS at all. I think it is going to be more of a challenge.
